Default my project - pics and commentary!once upon a time......

thought id post my project info in here to show that im giving it a go and that i do actually have a car and am willing to shed blood and tears for the blue oval!! i must be a fool!

anyway ive started with a 1.3 shell to try and save money on the insurance, (will be a 1.3 shell with zetec engine conversion, over a £1000 cheaper than using an xr3i shell although lot less bits come with it!)
here are some pictures of my zetec conversion and car build, although all we've done so far is take the thing apart!! no zetec stuff yet im afraid!

posted from my website so please forgive me for the rubbishy layout and small pics to save space!

27th December 2003

bought the car in this state for £120. Driven by Grant to my lock up where i removed the front
bumper to start the shell assesment. Looking at the general condition and whether i can sell parts
and what needs replacing.

bonnet needs replacing for starters, although now going to decied whether to fit a turbo or
leave without vents....not sure - any thoughts???

bumpers are all good and so is the engine bay on first inspection, although can tell more when
the engine is removed

escort in its new home (grave??)

rear view!! :S

side view, shoing colour/dirt

stylish interior+dash

bonnet needs replacing

arch is rusted through unfortunatly!

another shot of the arch and rust

bumper off and slam panel needs replacing.DOH!

left - rust

right - rust

29th December 2003

began work on the removal of the interior, starting with the seats and re-door cards.
more looking at the overal condition. seems ok, although needs work on the rusty arch pictured
above and also needs work on the front slam panel visible thanks to the removed bumper.

general shell condition so far is reasonible, not sure whether to remove the spare wheel hole
or whether shud leave to put amp or such like in....

lovely escort 1.3L rear seats

not for long!dan hard at work!

bumper removed, dan checks out under side of car

generally car isnt too bad!

underside is not too bad - new exhaust?

cleared out and no rear door cards

dumped new loom in back, fronts coming out next!

2nd January 2004

removed the front seats, carpet, dash and firewall carpet. can see the full extent of the
rust situation. Its not bad for a £120 car, although when areas have rusted they've done it well!
needs work up under the dash - the underside of the battery tray and the same the other side. Can from
this conclude that the wind screen and rubbers have perished and need replacing.

In all its not bad for the age and cost, floor is good some rust spots but nothing major.
needs general sand down clean and then spray to prevent further corrosion.
next need to remove the engine to start work on the prepping!!!lol!

i just gave it a little pull!beast!

No dash! rally slaaag

rust hole! :O

another lunchbox sized hole!

Dan reflecting on the carnage!!

8th January 2004

decided to remove the engine from the car in pieces as it wouldnt require the hiring of an engine crane,
and also would allow us to remove the bits and rubbish from the garage to my house.
Getting quite cluttered in the garage so had to make a desk to put some of the parts on and under.
took longer than we though, both getting bit fed up of the destruction and want to move onto some
modding but have to get to shell level first!

engine in original form

draining the radiator

no radiator & lights

1297 cc of pure power!lol!

erm...this isnt gunna work!!

Dan's modded KA!

making our own IKEA desk!

The rubbish pile!

the bucket of ming...comprised of..Motor oil+rad water+gbox oilfor recipies please send SAE to...
