Default Idle

hi guys, basically i started my car today after about two weeks. After i let it warm up i drove it to my local mechanic and my car was getting a shakey idle after going on boost. Was wondering why this is happening and could it be that i may not have enough oil, as i have a small oil leak.

If your on a standard breather system or an aftermarket breather that is still connected to the metering unit (not vented to atmosphere/catch tank) then an oil leak can also cause an air leak resulting in poor idle.

There are a few other possible causes. Air leak on the intake, faulty HT circuit/plugs, poor setup, sticking metering flap etc...

I would strongly recommend anyone that runs an MFI car to disconnect the engines breather system from venting into the airbox, by blocking the pipe on the air box

Currently any air leaks the engine itself develops from things as silly as a leaky sump/rocker gasket will cause running issues

done it to mine and im now venting to atmosphere
positives are the car now idles and cruises better, this accompanied by removing dump valve was like driving a completely different car
negatives are the car now smells like exahust fumes with a slight optimax tinge, need to get a catch tank pronto me thinks

The fumes are a downfall, you could always run the breather pipe to somewhere at the front of the car
