Peeps, please help my mate out - he's been whinging to me about his Mondy's heater.

Fan works on pos 1,2 and 4, but not 3.
Fan only blows air through the windscreen vents when set to, doesn't come out of other vents - fan turns off.

Answers on a postcard please...

Common fault, there is a resistor pack that burns out! Its basically a board with 4 resistors on it, one for each fan setting. However earlier versions actually melted! - Its amazing more mondeos havent caught fire!

Ford actually do a replacement fix for this. I'll come back in a second with the link...

Cheers mate

He'll be up at the local dealer tonight!

He'll be well chuffed. Does that cover the air direction control as well?

That only controls fan speed.

The fan direction is vacume controlled I think, its possible the vacume hose has come away / split from the inlet manifold.

No worries m8 I done one on my partners mondeo last year. Half hour job, pretty straight forward but shocking to see how burnt they come out!

This might help with the direction problem although you MAY find that issue resolves its self when you do the resistor pack fix.
