just popped this post up for a friend at my work.

what are the most common things to look for when the engine light comes on? the car still drives fine. its a 2001 ford focus black 1.6

only thing is though the front brakes need changing and thats it.

 

The sensors by the exhaust cat there is two, one of mine came loose and that brought up my light.

 

the engin light on my 1.6 focus came on for no reason i could see but then i couldn't get the power down on the road, turns out the the ignition coil needed changing not too expensive but the bloody thing is back on again now so looks like is gonna be more ŁŁŁ's

 

theres a number of things that can cause the light to come on sometimes the the ecu may have picked up a wrong signal which would also bring the light on if thats the case then the dtc would need to be cleared but common problems are coil pack o2 sensors air mass more so if induction fitted

 

MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BUT HAD NEW CLUTCH PUT IN AND IT WENT OFF

 

Disconect the battary for 10 mins it will reset the ecu see if it comes back on, if it does then its worth getting it checked if not then its just had a bad signal.

But i thought the new focus's had sensors on there breaks like you said so you know when there low.

 

you will need to leave it for 30 - 45 mins to reset the ecu, 10mins wont do it, plus make sure you have the radio code before you do it
