Default Vehicle Hire

I hired a Ford Galaxy on a 56 plate for the Blackpool weekender and during the weekend we picked up a stone chip in the windscreen which turned into a 12in crack running from the A pillar towards the centre of the windscreen.

Now the hire company want to charge us for a new screen...... Does that sound right?

She said that all hire contracts are not covered for tyres and glass

I thought all hire places would cover glass like a normal insurance cover does i.e. £50 or whatever excess and it gets replaced.

Just my typical luck that the Co they use IIRC the RAC didn't have a price for it as its the new shape Galaxy so i had to wait for a price.

They rang this morning and said its going to be £375

Can anyone shed some light on this? Apart from "You should of read the small print!" Most things are preventable apart from flying stones on the M6

A Navy mate of mine had a hire car for the weekend a few years back. Brand new Rover 75 barge.

Cracked the screen (accidental stone chip) and had to pay £575 of his own money to fix it. The Navy didn't help out either.

I'd be if it happened to me, but basically, yes, you will have to pay I'm afraid.

Maybe Thrush (IIRC) could do a screen cheap / sort a discount if they use the same firm he works for? Just a thought....

I work for a hire company mate and you pay a £5 damage waiver, and that covers you fully comp with no excess which covers you for everything.

Try and find out whether the company had included this in the price of the hire?

£375 does seem fucking steep as well.

Good luck

Depends what company you hired from?

I work for a hire drive company, and we offer a £10 per day of the hire collision damage waiver, this covers tyres, wheels, bodywork and glass.

If you never paid any collision damage waiver, normally detailed when you collect the car, then i think your fucked

Paul, last time hired a car (Fiat Stilo 1.2 ), was in the same situation, but had paid the acciental damage waiver thingy, so was covered, iirc would have cost me £280.00 if I hadnt paid the extra, makes the £10.00 per day sound cheap dont it!

On a different note have you booked the DPW again?
