Im looking at buying one or the other in the next week or so.

Tbh i dont like the look of the new v2 version it looks cheap and is considerably cheaper in price than the older version which says to me corners have been cut. Am i right?

I have found some of the older style reconditioned ones with the europeon maps thrown in for free for £150 delivered which i am considering. But for £10 more i can have a brand new version 2.

Whats are your views on both?

your input would be gratefully received.

 

V2 is what id go for every time. smaller, lighter and more reliable so far ( i sell them).

also get better reception and better mapping supposedly.

 

Any idea why they are about 50 quid cheaper than before then?

 

The same reason the old Tom Tom 700 used to be £540 and the better Tom Tom 910 from this year is £349. Things just progress and get cheaper though i see what your saying, but defo had less problems with the new tom tom ones than the old ones

Have always borrowed tomtom version 1 off mates and i had no probs with it wot so ever.

My other mate has a garmin and didnt find it half as easy to use.

Im deliver cars for a living and use my Tomtom V2 everyday without fail.

 

Any particular reason why? Ive had tomtom's for a good few years now and never had a problem, and i know loads that say the same. obviously some will have had bad experiences no doubt, like the problems with the new style mounts and the switching itself off issue.

Id go for tomtom over any other device as its just so much easier to use in my opinon and has better features and a better layout than the rest.

I can do about 300-600 miles a day and have never had an issue apart form once, where a brand new road was being built, but it soon calculated me an alternative route instantly.

 

It all depends what you want it for?

If its going to be used everyday then buy the tomtom without a doubt.

If its simply for the odd journey to somewhere you dont know buy the Garmin i3 for £99.

Having used both units for a while now the Garmin i3 is fantastic value for money and again, never let me down.

 

I agree with that, the i3 is excellent for once in a awhile use, but tom tom wins hands down for regular use.

 

ive had the tomtom classic since it come out too.
i did make a full lenght post about why they in my eyes are crap it was a big list.
their support is crap and they sell "the latest maps" without giving release notes/dates which are very out of date and fail to include some major roads in several places around britain.
ill give it to them when they work theyre great but mine is taking ages to get a signal these days, and the battery life has gone downhill.
but i guess thats par for the course given its age.
the main thing that angered me with tomtom was when i wanted a new map they charged me £41 quid and it was no more modern!!

I agree mate, i have an i3, use it once every couple of months and it's been brilliant!! Last couple of times i have used it tho it keeps loosing its signal

Oh, and map updates cost £60!!!

 

I agree to a certain extent, unless something has changed in a major way there no need to map update for ages yet.

I used my Garmin i3 to goto barrow in furness from manchester to collect a minibus, never heard of the place but i put the postcode in and off i went, it got me there, got me there bang on time too, one Garmin i3 and collected minibus...

I also used the i3 to take me to Carlise, again, faultless

 

I think what im really looking for is some pros and cons of the new one and old one ie has it lost any features since the new one has come out?

Has the new one got any benefits over the old one?

Basicly if the older one is better thats the one i'll be buying, the new one does look ok i went to see it in comet the other day but im not quite convinced yet. 1 thing is the guy there said the new one had lost the bluetooth bit?

The new one is supposed to have a faster processor, but i went for the new one because of its size, mines in my work bag all day and didnt want to be lugging around the lager older model.

 

I just bought a navman F20 for 104 excl VAT from Handtec was delivered next day and does everything Tom Tom 1 does. I have used it every day as has my fiancee and her mother used theirs every day too. Very good quality

has full postcode search, adaptive routing etc etc

Cant see the point spending extra on the tom tom tbh

 

I've got the new tomotom one and it's absolutely faultless. I dont need euro mapping, nor bluetooth calling etc so it suits me perfectly. gets a signal instantly (had a goodmans gnav previously and could take up to 10 mins to get a signal somtimes)

The new one looks a lot better than the previous model too, the previous one looks a bit too chunky
