Default Linering a 205 Block?

Gents,

I have an old 205 block and was wandering if it can be linered? If so, what sort of power can they run with the liners?

Many thanks.

Thanks chaps. I have no power figure in mind as yet, I just want to know if the 205 block I have can be used for anything more than an anchor So, is 500BHP possible from a linered 205?

I'm hoping to run 500 bhp on a linered 200 block. No 2 has a standard 'machine shop' liner. Stu's mapping it at the mo, if it works I'll let you know!

Brom ran over 500bhp (well, 8greens, a bigger than RS500 turbo, and well over 30psi) on a 205 block with no liners for a long time with no problems.

They not as shit as the rumour makes out it seems.

Sorry, I don't I'm afraid.

However when I did my last engine build I put my 205 block into storage as I had read all the stuff that says no good beyond 350 /400 /450/ 500 bhp etc.

Since then I've seen Nutter runs a big power motor on a 205 block. And have noticed a fair few others have done as well. I'm not sure how they differ, but if I had my time back again, I prob should have saved some pennies and kept my 205 block going.

Always buy the best you can afford, but personally I think a 205 block isn't as bad as sometimes made out to be.

The block is machined to accept the liners (see above photo) which effectively give you a new (and stronger) bore for the pistons, or to be able to re-use a cracked block.

http://www.mountuneonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=41

It's a common practice on some engines, e.g. Rover V8's.

I have always said that there is nothing wrong with a 205 block

Years ago its all people had and many ran big BHP with 205 without problems ,,its just another of those " my blocks better than yours " things

A friend of mine used a 205 block for years, greys and 2,2 bars of boost, and beating the living shit out of it every meter but it`s still as good as new. Just inspected, and improved and put into another 3door

I know of a saph race car that runs around 500bhp through a block with a couple of liners fitted, its still going after 3 yrs

I do however pray that they will work well for me as my 200 block has 2 liners fitted and I expect about 500hp on gas.

I'll let Sib do the research and decide what to do from there

Well i was chating to a customer about my Escos engine and i was thinkg about getting Mountune to do the machining work and he said he had a good friend who woked there and he was sure they did not do the work in "house". He even range up his friend and asked and he gave me the name of the company who apparently does the work for Mountune. ??

Having had a Mountune engine in the past, I too was left with this impression following a couple of frank conversations with them. I subsequently heard this from another reliable source re. head porting and long studding. What company name were you given?

Can not remeber the name got it wrote down at work but they were in Maldon Essex.

I think you will find that most tuners don't do the machineng work themselfs they spec it and send it out.

My 205 block crack with stage III power at 80,000 miles .

Also, I certainly wouldn't put a 205 block in a high powered 4x4, as it is the transmission loadings that was the main reason the 4x4s received a strengthened block, so I wouldn't expect a big power 205 blocked 4x4 car to last very long if used aggressively.

Knowing how Si drives, I certainly wouldn't do it if I was him, as I am VERY hard on engines as well .

Sounds like it could be CTM. I know they were based there although they have moved recently.

Unless my linered 200 block dies at 500 ish bhp level, I won't be going back to my 205 block Mike for the reason you mentioned...

If it can break I will break it! Therefore a liner in the 200 block seemed my best option when I melted it last October, rather than use my 205 block. Now money is tight though, I would be tempted to reuse my 205 block if I had to.

I'll be the PF test dummy

Si

after what happened to a friend of mine who used them (and they still owe him an engine!) I'd never use them... maybe it's differrent if your name's mountune!
