Linering a 205 Block?

I have an old 205 block and was wandering if it can be linered? If so, what sort of power can they run with the liners?

Brom ran over 500bhp (well, 8greens, a bigger than RS500 turbo, and well over 30psi) on a 205 block with no liners for a long time with no problems.

However when I did my last engine build I put my 205 block into storage as I had read all the stuff that says no good beyond 350 /400 /450/ 500 bhp etc.
Since then I've seen Nutter runs a big power motor on a 205 block. And have noticed a fair few others have done as well. I'm not sure how they differ, but if I had my time back again, I prob should have saved some pennies and kept my 205 block going.
Always buy the best you can afford, but personally I think a 205 block isn't as bad as sometimes made out to be.

The block is machined to accept the liners (see above photo) which effectively give you a new (and stronger) bore for the pistons, or to be able to re-use a cracked block.

A friend of mine used a 205 block for years, greys and 2,2 bars of boost, and beating the living shit out of it every meter but it`s still as good as new. Just inspected, and improved and put into another 3door
I know of a saph race car that runs around 500bhp through a block with a couple of liners fitted, its still going after 3 yrs
I do however pray that they will work well for me as my 200 block has 2 liners fitted and I expect about 500hp on gas.
I'll let Sib do the research and decide what to do from there

Having had a Mountune engine in the past, I too was left with this impression following a couple of frank conversations with them. I subsequently heard this from another reliable source re. head porting and long studding. What company name were you given?

I think you will find that most tuners don't do the machineng work themselfs they spec it and send it out.

Another thing I found put: The guy I got to do my current head does work for Prodrive, Aston Martin and Mountune. We worked out from invoice dates etc that he actually did my previous Mountune head...

Also, I certainly wouldn't put a 205 block in a high powered 4x4, as it is the transmission loadings that was the main reason the 4x4s received a strengthened block, so I wouldn't expect a big power 205 blocked 4x4 car to last very long if used aggressively.
Knowing how Si drives, I certainly wouldn't do it if I was him, as I am VERY hard on engines as well

.If it can break I will break it! Therefore a liner in the 200 block seemed my best option when I melted it last October, rather than use my 205 block. Now money is tight though, I would be tempted to reuse my 205 block if I had to.
