Does anyone know of any scratch removing polish or some form of compound for windscreens?
Where the wipers have been the glass is scratched and when the sun hits it, it is a nightmare to see anything
Short of a new windscreen, I would like to try the cheaper options first

in that case here's a free one for ya.
try gettin your hands on some jewllers rouge (not sure if thats spelt rite)
its a brown powder that you rub into the scratch with a wet cloth but to be honest it don't get deep scratches out.
i could send you some but if the little bag was to spilt it the post people would think its drugs or summin falling from the envelope.

Gracy - not read all the replies, but from my expirience (5yrs in the automotive glass trade) there isn't really anything that will remove deep or prominent scratches from glass
As far as "doing a good job" changing the screen, like anything you get good fitters and bad fitters. Personally, I pride myself on being a good fitter, and in the last year, where I did over 1000 windscreen changes, I had 6 that leaked, 3 that stress cracked, and 2 that came back for "poor trims" (where the trim lifted of didn't take properly to the screen) Thats a pretty good score as far as I am concerned
Of course there ARE factors when working on old Saff's tho - rust being the main problem. Many many screens are taken out to find the aperture behind the screen has rusted/corroded - this can be a big problem as new bond will never stick to it perfectly like when it was new. There are tricks to working with this - anti-rust primers we use so that the primer used for applying the glue to has a smoother area to adhere to etc, but as we all know - once rust has set in, it only ever gets worse

Cheers Matt
Altho rust shouldn't be a problem on my car, it being a BMW and all that

Also, the scratches arn't deep, they are just where the wipers have been and it looks like someone has used the wipers with a severe shortage of water on a dusty screen

Ginge - couldn't tell ya, I really only deal with ins claims.....
Paul - they are uaually very tight, and rather flat to the aperture. Also, BMW for some reason decided to dive them well below the bonnet line, so to get the scuttle off and the bottom two corners of the screen out, you need to remove a screw from the hinges on the bonnet allowing it to slide forward. It's getting these screws back in that is the cunt
And if the car has lived outside it's whole life, usually we find rust/corrosion under the screen on the aperture similar to fords
