it is and using just bolt on parts too.

my gti is running 150 Bhp with 140 ibs tourque.

spec is:
2.0 maf, throttle body and cams
k&n apollo cis induction kit
ashley 4-2-1 manifold (de-cat)
magnex catback
uni-chip

have a look on ebay for the ford parts. very easy to come by.

but to be honest with you. the money i spent getting to that mark could have been spent to put a 2.0 liter in. my next thing on the old "to do list"

Lip,

There is no point doing anything to the 1.6 ZETEC it will cost a fortue to get any extra BHP.

150 bhp is easy from a 1.8 ZETEC. Just fit 130 bhp spec cams and a megasquirt. No need for chips, induction kits, exhaust and MAF changes. Keep it simple.

your best bet is just a induction kit and exhaust system cheap and easy to fit

Your joking right? That will probably make you lose power.

What like? Forgot to mention you might need a slightly larger TB off a 2.0.

Been following this topic myself. I have an Escort 1.8 Ghia Si. It's only the 105PS version on the 1.8 16v DOHC (not the zetec)

How easy would it be to get a few more BHP on a shoe string budget?

The early ZETECs had DOHC on the rocker cover. The only 16v 1.8s fitted to the Escort are ZETECs. The above applies to your engine too.

They must have changed the water pump design then coz when I bought one, I was asked whether it was a zetec or just a 1.8 DOHC

The waterpump changed with the Blacktop ZETEC. Your is a Silver top if it has DOHC so they were probaably making sure.

The ZETEC was originally called the ZETA as was going to be a carb enigne from 1.4 to 1.8ltrs.

It is an ECU so needs mapping, loads of ZETEC maps out there to get you somewhere near for free. Have a look in the Fuel Injection part of my website for more details and suppliers.

where are you all getting you power figures from 150bhp GTi from a chip and breathing mods would love to see you power graph please

and wardy 130 spec + ms = 150bhp seems a touch optimistic... its that on a stadnard HO manifold or the ultrarare oversized ported one?

for zetec mods on a budget, i found the decat the best bang for the buck. had to put a cat on my old (standard-ish) 2.0 zetec mondy for the MOT and it felt so much slower compared to with no cat!

induction kit makes it a bit quicker at mid-high revs but at the expense of power lower down (can make it feel sluggish around town).

another cheap easy power upgrade to do is underdrive pulley.

lightened fly helps alot on the zetec too.

not being funny but surley the easiest way would be to put a 2 litre in and build on that,i would have thought this would have been a good starting point? Also tried putting a 2 litre throttle body on my 1.8 si and found all it did was make the A pedal sit lower and drink copeus amounts of fuel not impressed But then someone told me thats because i didnt use a cone filter as ive still got the air box on but its just been drilled

A 130 spec ZETEC should have the better inlet anyway. As I also stated you will probably need a slightly bigger TBs. Dunnell used to sell a kit for take the 1.8 (130 bhp sepc) ZETEC to 150 bhp it was just an ECU and a TB.

A 4 branch will do very little unless it a properly designed (ie expensive one) even then you will need an ECU remap.

Induction kits do b#gger all, they lose power if anything.

agreed on the 4 branch / induction point,

how big can you go on the throttlebody witouth the fuel dropping out the inducted air?

The reality is the inlet manifold will limit the airflow so much it wont happen. The only problem you get is too much airflow at small throttle opens which will need some careful mapping.
