Default speedo cable

tracked my none working speedo down to the cable broke at gearbox end, about 2 inches from join to box
now this is the 2 part cable, could i basically take the join that extends the cable for abs off and the rest should just fit to gearbox<will it be long enough?is the non abs cable just this one and you buy the extension for abs
gonna go out and try it anyway just makin sure before i waste my time

i understood that the 2 piece was an extension to get round abs, save ford makin another cable,as whenever ive had any replaced theyll always asked me if its abs or non abs, yesterday i went to masterparts to get a cable and the guy says that the dont do them but the extension was only for abs models,so i assumed because i dont have abs then the extension(which is the bit thats broke) can get takin off and it will still fit

Its got a section that can be unscrewed so the cable can be split into 2 halfs. I'll get a pic of it and post it up.

is one section bigger than the other?
the big section i presume is just the std cable and you buy the extension to add to it to extend round the abs

Thing is though, the 2 piece cables have that big ass nut thing half way down, a standard cable doesnt have that on the instrument end

the main cable has the same type join as the extension cable that goes onto gearbox(if that makes sense)
basically its the same ends all the extension do is make it longer, thats why i think it should do the job,ill find out tomorrow for sure(weather permitting)

Yeah but ive seen the cable you are on about, and the join is always by the wiper motor, leaving the piece with the correct ends way too short to be a normal cable

my join is down at the gearbox end and if i take the extension off, the female end that is left is the exact same as the female end of the extension
now you mention that youve seen it beside the wiper, its ringing bells with me too that ive seen some with the join up there, but mine is defo down at gearbox end, sits just behind amal valve when cable is hooked up
