to be honest it don't matter, the only difference will be a very slight weight difference on say the middle of the spring depending weather you have mroe coils above or below the middle. But then again you got probably 400kg on each spring so your not going to notice it.

The spring gets compressed from the bottom yes?????????????

So if you put the closer coils at the bottom they will bottom out before the top coils work to there full potential

but the spring will all compress at a certain rate it won't compress the first ring before moving on to the next, it may compress one ring quicker than another if they have different gaps between them.

Thats what i was told or somrthing along those lines, it makes sense to me anyway to have the larger coils at the bottom

How the fuck can it make any difference which way round they go

They are being compressed linearly so regardless of whether that compression is coming from the top or the bottom the effect will be exactly the same???

^Progressive spings, not linear, thats why they tighter wound and not the same throughout.

But they wont compress from the bottom up

Wont make much difference but id put them closer at bottom for the minute weight difference.

You misunderstood what I was saying.

I understand that the spring rates are progressive i.e. it becomes harder to compress the springs the more they are compressed giving you good ride quality combined with good road holding (in very basic terms)

My point is that when you squeeze a spring you are performing a linear motion on it which is the same regardless of whether that force is coming from the top or bottom of the spring. Putting the tighter coils at the bottom or the top has no effect on the operation of the spring.
