Default 1.8 Escort SI 16V really struggling when setting off

Just managed to get to work this morning

the car was really really struggling, came to some lights, put my foot down to set off and the car almost stalled, i let off the gas and the revs picked back up again but as soon as i put my foot down again it seems to find a dead spot and there's no power there at all.

any idea why the car has suddenly developed a flat spot? or how i can cure it?

the car is almost cutting out at low revs! it's very dangerous as when at a junction you want the power to pull away.....well thisjust wants to die and rolls into the junction.

no mate, it's sound ticking over - firing on all 4, just pulling away and at low revs theres nothing there at all.

could the air flow meter be buggered?

Disconnect the MAF and see if it runs better. If it does clean the inside of the MAF with carb cleaner, let it dry and reconnect it. This is a common problem, especially if you have fitted one of those useless induction kit thingingys.

it's got the standard Air box on mate. when you say the MAF do you mean the Air Flow Meter? the thing just after the air box with the plug on it? if so then yeah thats what i suspected.

if i run it with the MAF off then it will only allow the revs to go up so high before the engine chokes itself but yeah i see the method to that madness.

A MAF is the Mass Air Flow sensor, so yes. The engine will run happily without it, but fuel economy will drop.

Well turned out it was just Damp - I ended up getting a 2.99 tin of WD40, Sprayed everything under the bonnet that looked electrical and it seems to have fixed the problem. been out in the rain, snow sleet e.t.c and it hasnt missed a beat.

awesome
