What have you dont to combat(if you have it) the RED HOT starter motor problem. I have had the prob on all 3 RST's ive had. Shall i wrap the downpipe and starter in heat wrap or something??????

i got a starter motor/ turbo heat shield from ford cost about 15 quid theres 2 types one which sits at the top and clips onto the oil return pipe and one that goes on the underside of the starter motor and cable ties on, i put the first type on and had no hot startin issues for 3 months

Cheers mate, so they still available then. I had heard of em, but never seen em so thought they be rare and unavailable now

 

there still availble just 24hr wait to get em in stock see ur local ford dealer and get em to show u both types on micrcat and order the one which clips onto the oil return pipe

i wrapped the down pipe in heat wrap, its been the best ever no problems at all when hot. Used to be realy sluggish at starting b4 then

 

fook i'd dingy the oil return one, if that hose comes off ure screwed the other one cable ties sound sbetter imo! but then again if that pipe comes off easy then u better fix it

 

dont think the pipe would come off as its metal and weldin in to the block the second one i mentioned wouldnt stop the turbo from cookin the starter would just stop the exhaust where it goes under the starter

 

never had apromlem mate, my s1 ran 21 psi and and the turbo was glowing all the time ridiculously and my s2 uns 18psi and is hunkydoory

 

Funny problem. Never had it at all on my car without a heatshield. Mate went through 3 starters with over heating even with a shield.

 

Guess your lucky. I have heard this problem many many times, and like i say have had it with all 3 rsts, this one is a brand new not recon bosch starter too

 

oil return is welded onto the block fooked if i'd do a turbo swap on your car lol

 

I think it must be luck. It is a common problem, but it seems some people never suffer from it, while a lot of others can't get rid of it

 

only prob i have is the connection dropping off when hot, makes a cool security feature, its just a cunt when i stall in traffic and have to get out ussually in front of a car with fit birds and burn my forearm to pieces putting the cunt back on

 

Yeah. I reckon it same with a lot of things on these james...hell some cars are plagued with ALL the common problems on it....feel sorry for owners

 

I just use the standard Ford heat sheild on the S1 and I've not had any probs, even on track days

LOL! My 1st s2 was a plagued car...so i stripped and rebuilt it from bare shell. Only way to cure it. Was fine then. This one is fooking brilliant. Except a little hesitancy prob as it needs a set up after ive fitted GRS....and the over heating starter

 

my starter didn't want to know when I was queued up to go into Trax... pain in the arse

 

In my experience engine advance/retard on a chipped RST will have a big effect on the life of the starter motor.

On 1 of my cars setups which ran a lot of retard it appeared that the starter was on its way out. Changing this and using more engine advance on a slightly different setup appeared to cure the problem.

ah right. Just that it did it yesterday....and ive turned boost down to about 6 psi until i get it setup

 

with im sure its retard as andy said u can stick it on a RR, floor it and watch the manifold glow red almost instantly........soo much heat cos of lots of boost, but if u advance, turn the boost down (incidentally making more power ) then theirs less heat, and less chance of a fooked farter! bobs yer uncle, now keep to topic lets not do the advance vs retard can of worms (may of got it the wrong way about before anyone points it out)
