Default Anyone Wanna Help Me Spec....

Some new innards for my pc?

Basically, its slow as fuck, forgets shit, wont display my icons on the desktop on boot up(which is really helpful ), takes ages to decide whether its going to do what i've asked it to do and theres plenty more to!! Its nearly been launched out the window a few times

I added an extra 250gb hard drive about a year or so ago and a t.v. card and thats about it.

All i want is big memory, loads of ram, good graphics card, a good sound card, xp pro and a spunky new case like Stu@MSD's AND to be bloody reliable

I think thats it, have i missed anything?

well since your not gaming then that will save you about 100 at least
Basically if you installed the stuff yourself(or got a mate to do it) you could have a new processor and 2gigs of ram for between 200-250 depending on what spec processor you buy.

A decent case could be had for about 50-100, agian depending on what one you pick.

I use this site http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/home/ to get all my pc bits

By the way what pc do you have at the moment?(depending on this you might be able to keep the motherboard but if its too old/wrong type for a new processor then you will need one of those too) but for what you want you wont spend anywhere near 500

I just need pointing in the right direction really, theres is a very, very, VERY nice man in Kent who builds computers for his mates...... I know in exchange for some shots under the porno light he'll soon come round

How will i find out about the mother board? Under the system spec option it says i have: AMD Athlon(tm) 1.25GHz, 1.00GB of RAM

Just want one thats really upto spec and will stay @in date' for a few years

I'm liking the look of this, but what about this PSU business and how many fans etc.....

Ideally i'd like as much RAM as possible, i already have a 250GB internal hard drive and an external 400GB hard drive (which i'm just backing up onto) So loads of memory and I'd like a carlos fandango mother board, processor etc.....

You say its got to be up to spec, now if your not gaming on it then theres no point spending 200 on a processer.

Id get something like this http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/94640/rb/25141902177

Now im just assuming your motherboard is a socket 939, if it is that processor above will fit straight in, and it will come with all the fans etc and everything it needs to run, if you dont have a socket 939 mobo then get one of those(there not much so dont worry)
Then get 2gigs of ram http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/114484/rb/25142031754

Then a decent case, ive just brought this beast http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/118268, it has loads of room for all your components, looks good, built well, keeps everything cool which is a big plus

Basically with that processor and 2GB's of ram will be a huge speed increase over what you have now

As i said though the processor and ram will be fine assuming you have a socket 939 mobo, if you dont then you will need one to fit the above items, plus to get any kind of performance you need at least a 939 board

EDIT i forogt a PSU, this is the one i bought a month ago http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/102953 this one is great, the BMW of psu's

And fans dont worry about that, get a decent enough case like the one i posted and it has fans built in, they are huge and easily keeps my system cool which is pretty high spec

Righto,

Don't use Ebuyer's own RAM. Secondly, get a truepower PSU.

Case looks funky, but will you benefit from all the features it has to offer ??

I'm at Tony's at the mo, but I will price and spec up some componants for you, based on what you already have

LOL i knew you wouldnt agree with anything i came up with

Im a member on 2/3 of the biggest PC forums on the net and built my own gaming machine so i know what im talking about

And what do you mean will he benefit from all the features it has to offer? the only things it has that might not be needed is all the fans but then a cooler pc is better and will make all the componants last longer if there running cooler.
Also you need a decent case anyway, no point spending 20quid on something that will break in a years time.

Why does he need a "gamer's" case then ? And, unless I'm very much mistaken, a case won't break of it's own accord, and unless Paul decides to take up DIY computing, it won't be ripped apart and have the oppertunity to break.

Paul,

I have replied to your PM m8

Its only called a gamers case because of all the fans and the meshed front for hardcore cooling, its a great case all round thats why i recommended it
And a case could break a number of ways depending on the household and where its kept

Like i told him, your the one that will be building it so ill let you get on with it

Post up whatever you come up with

It is a lovely case m8 But not really essential for what's going in it, max of 2 dvd rom drives and 2 hard drives

I've had my case for about 5 years now, and the only reason I have so many fan's is due to the heat of the hard drives

Mind you, living with Benn he'll need the strongest case in the world

Now now kids! I chose that case, mainly because its a bit bling and i really like the case Stu@MSD has

I may well play games on it in years to come, but i dont have much time for that at the moment - i have the PS if i do.

It'll mainly be for downloading music, movies and poncing on the tinternet and nowt much else.

I appreciate both your inputs, especially yours Jonny...... after all you did spend 2 hours on MSN with me

I'm sure we'll sort it between the 3 of us

I dunno if Benn took his pc round there as well, or if they are sharing it

Either way, DanRSturbo maintenance contracts are non transferable nor refundable

And if Benn's on it, i'll be round there every 3 months cleaning it up
