Help Please - PC DVI Connections
Can anyone help me please...
Got a DVI connector on my Dell PC so I can run dual monitors.
I aquirred a DVI to VGA connector converter but it doesnt fit the PC.
The converter looks correct as I know it and have seen before.
This adaptor connector has a long flat pin and 4 pins around it.
The connector on the Dell PC has a shorter flat pin and no pins around it.
Result it wont plug in
From this can I assume there are different types of DVI connection ?
Can anyone shed any light on the matter please ?

there are three different types
DVI-D - True Digital Video
DVI-A - High-Res Analog
DVI-I - The Best of Both Worlds
* If one or both connections are DVI-D, you need a DVI-D cable.
* If one or both connections are DVI-A, you need a DVI-A cable.
* If one connection is DVI and the other is VGA, and the DVI is analog-compatible, you need a DVI to VGA cable or a DVI/VGA adaptor.
* If both connections are DVI-I, you may use any DVI cable, but a DVI-I cable is recommended.
* If one connection is analog and the other connection is digital, there is no way to connect them (regardless of connector type).

Simon, you could just check what video card you have on the PC from video properties, you should be able to work out what type of output you have from that?
The adapter/converter (for VGA to digital) has the four pins in a square to the left, with a horizontal pin as wide as the 'square' of the 4 pins, plus 12 of the other 24 possble pins present.
Just to add I don't actually use my adapter/converter, they just came with the screen/PC (video card is a dual screen one).
EDITED: cos my speeling was crap

Thanks Bill,
I am have trouble finding out any information at present.
I suspect the connector is a TRUE DVI-D connector which means you cannot
connect it to a standard LCD monitor.
Will know more later...
