Default is my puma too slow

bought me a 1.7 puma last weekend and the stats claim 126 mph but mine seems to strugle with 100.the exhaust sounds like its blowing but took it kwickfit yesterday and they said it was fine.i think it might be blowing at the manifold? anyway it dont seem to wanna go over 5500rpm

in 4th im getting bout 95 at 5500rpm
in 5th im gettin bout 105 at 5500rpm

its still very fast at getting there but seems too slow top end to me.

I think your cat has broken up and is causing a restriction, due to a piece partly blocking the exhaust pipe.......The huge back pressure has then caused one of the EGR pipes to blow off (where it joins to the rubber pipes push-on connection).

Had this happen on my 2 litre Zetec Mondeo with the same symtoms as you describe - lack of performance + exhaust blowing noise.

That sounds way too slow to me. Mine used to hit the limiter in every gear and mine was totally standard. I'd go with what Doug says.

Yamaha.

They can design a bloody good engine too, although they didn't bother for Ford. They designed the head on mine.

ps. Yamaha, jointly designed the Sigma engines with ford, its not all their own work

Interestingly, have a look at, and take some measurements from a 1.6 twincam from the mk1 toyota mr2 and compare to the sigma

Toyota basically copied the BDA for their 4A-GE engine (in the Mk1 MR2's), same bore and stroke, same size valves and similar port shapes/size. They also make similar power at similar revs. I can't find out much about the Sigma engines, whats the same/similar? They aren't regarded as being as good as a BDA or 4A-GE.

Yahama designed the 20v head on my 4A-GE engine, good bit of kit.

Unfortunately Yamaha fell into the same trap as BMW and Jag with their Nicasil liners...............

Well the 1.6 sigma ( zetec-se ) is capable of 200bhp with standard valve sizes and its a very very tuneable engine. Used by most of the major kit car companies now, caterham/westfield etc. Very underrated on internet forums lol but in practise a great range of engines
