Default Temperature Gauge Randomness

The temp gauge on the Saph has started giving strange readings - fine when sitting in traffic, as soon as you start moving it goes down and down the faster you go until the needle's on the bottom.

Any ideas? Presumably there's a voltage regulator attached to it - could this be breaking down?

Cheers,

Si

Tempurature gauge on the dash works off a stub unit which sits near the big ECU temp sensor on the head......

Might be worth having a new one as they are about 10quid. Smit.

what does the ecu temp sender do?

you can get this problem if coolant is low, or there is an air trap around the sensor. not enough flow from water pump at idle, but is during driving.

also, stuck open thermostat at this time of year will have the same effect

Default temp gauge

mine went haywire like that - kept dropping right down once the motor was warm - I simply cleaned the sender connection (bit fidley) and it worked great for a while... didn't drive it for a while and had to redo it to make it work again... so got a new sensor sitting here ready to go in.
