Are these any good?

My snooty nextdoor neighbour reckons that his is the bollocks. Nice looking motor, not sure about having the lights on 24/7 though!!!

He doesn't have either, his missus uses it to drive about half a mile into the village to the school.

Only prob with the X5 is that with the new model coming out it'll be a bit "last year" if you know what I mean.

You can get a an XC90 for 16k fully loaded where as I think you'd struggle to get a decent range for that sort of money.

Are touaregs worth a look?

I dont get the whole city 4x4 thing. why spend a truckload of cash on a huge cumbersome, pain in the arse to park 4x4 with jelly mould steering and suspension that isnt particularly quick, and drinks petrol like nobodys business. Plus if you drive an X5 everyone thinks your a drug dealer

If you live on a farm, fair enough, and even then, buy a proper 4x4

If these people like to have "big" cars that make them feel safe, why don't they buy a people carrier? Because they aren't fashionable.....?

Range Sport or a Toareg V10 tdi for me, if I was to have a volvo then I would only go with the V70 R 4wd.

Volvo are not renowned for building 4x4's, they have just built one to keep up with the Jones as to speak.

The transmission is very good, volvo are top class for 4wd systems however.

The Volvo XC90 is a good car, especially the new D5 engined one (185 bhp). My only quibble is the stupidly expensive service charges from a dealership and the fact that in the Geartronic model you darent pull out aof a junction without having a big gap because they are very unresponsive off the mark. About a 2 second delay before you start to move. The new V8 isnt a bad thing mind.

I work for a Volvo dealership and I would rather have an X5 as I used to work for BMW and got to drive plenty, IMO they are a better car.

Have got the D5 Steptronic version which peforms the role of family chariot very well (7 seats can be useful).

Test drove the Cayenne, X5, Toureg and ML AMG before buying the XC90 but am looking to sell it soon for a cayenne.

Didn't rate the X5, thought it was overrated and overpriced.

For off roading they are crap, I went on the motorshow course in one, they gind out and have no where near the ability of what it pretends to be.
They dont have much leg room and are just like a V70 inside.

I test drove the D5 XC90 & really rate them, the X5 is nice looking & a good drive but has a very small boot & can only seat 5 compared to the XC90. I decided on a V70 R manual AWD in the end & i am very pleased with it & its probably rarer than my 3dr Cossie ! If you are trying to buy a secondhand V70 R their are only ever a handful for sale in the country, was only about 14 throughout the whole Volvo dealer network in the country when i bought mine. Just about to buy the BSR plug & play re map to go from 300bhp standard to about 360BHP stage 1 re map. Its a real sleaper because it does'nt look fast

Simon.
