Default Help cambelt snapt ...................

on the escort td user thank fook!!

Pulled away and snapt as changed to 2nd at very low revs. Turned over to confirm, so...................... is it scrap head time or do they sometimes get away without terminal faliure, really dont want to be fucking around with it so want the least hasstle free way to cure.

Was thinking about putting new belt on timin up and crossing fingers as will be quickest and cheapest way to find out? unless anyone can tell me a better way without stripping

it varies!

Some times only bent valves

sometimes valves and guides

or it could be the cam carriers have smashed out the head!

Leakdown test to see if its still sealing will tell you if the valves are bent.

i've got a spare engine here its worth a new belt just to find out tho, take the cam cover off first, as i've seen many cams smashed into pieces on 1.8 diesel ford engines.

I had a lucky escape - tensioner fell in bits on my old fiesta 1.8 diesel (the grey shit heap) while doing 70 on the motorway, car stopped dead, chucked a new belt on and it went again

Very lucky

You're the luckiest man alive!! I would have suggested that trying a belt on it would have been a complete waste of time!!!!!

me and my pal were kickin the ass out of a 1.5 civic old old shape and the cambelt snapped, he was even trying to bump start it on the hill and when being towed whacked a belt on it, I thought it would be a waste of time but it fired up and was fine
