I'd agree to a point too Tiff but there are more members of staff there now than this time 18 months ago.

Michael found that too until he realised he could get stuff cheaper than either dealing direct or buying off Ebay... then he posted this

As per another post about which brakes to go for here:

https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...asc&highlight=

I'll copy and paste my testimonial:

Comp Brakes on mine, front 330mm 4 pots, and rear 300mm bells and rotors on spaced out standard calipers.

Those that know me and my driving know the car gets used HARD all the time on track (when it works) and I swear by them.

Best prices also come from Tony (Of the NUTS RuS variety), and they are far cheaper than the 'obvious' brands and work just as well if not better IMHO.

IIRC Ł750 ish for the fronts, and Ł250 ish for the rears.

I dont make a penny on anything Paul as im not a trader

Im more than happy to pass on a direct number, or ebay link to products on most threads

I fully understand what your thinking though and is something I have to be very careful of

Same with the MEF stuff - I always pass on a link to the Zoo site too.

Compare in what way Rich - size ? 330mm

The question confused me TBH.

Paul if you take up trading them again I'll stop being a middleman and pass people on to you

They are available from places like www.tjmotorsport.co.uk etc who advertises on other Ford sites ( thats Tim and nothing to do with me BTW)

I do sometimes pass people onto him occasionally, but he cant beat their direct trade price as well you know

I have had many cars fitted with AP"s and fitted a few sets of comp brake to cossies , and if i am totaly honest you wont notice anything between AP and comp brake

As i have always said , the product is very good , and the price is superb I just wish they would stick to ONE price for everyone

They have a s/steel dust plate mate and s/steel pistons , so dust getting in and corroding the pistons isnt an issue

I have never heard of any problems with any kit , and every kit i ever sold was for a road / track car

They have been independantly tested in Germany on a manufacturing rig and withstood the same pressure test as an AP caliper for the same length of time (if not longer)

Some of the others failed at much lower pressures (not naming names).

Thats how these things are tested in the real world.

There is a vast new range of calipers ready but maninly not being released until these tests have been completed.

AP have had a namehold on the market for years, If you can afford them then for sure buy them, but there are comparable products out there that will do a similar job at a lower price.

Remember the pad does most of the work if you put the same pad in some calipers IMHO you would not know the difference.

AP people with a pride for the name will disagree.

Well Put Tony

People Buy AP because of the name ,,Like designer clothes , they both keep you dry and warm its just one costs 3 times as much

Alps Pacino

As Paul said "dust seals" are actually for us termed "corrosion seals"

They are generally placed on a cast caliper with chrome plated pistons to stop rust and corrosion over a period of time.

If you have an alloy caliper and stainless steel piston there is nothing to rust or sieze over time so not strictly necesaary.

However because its difficult to get people to understand this some of the new bigger range (not yet released) have been fitted with rubber seals. They are totally pointless but will stop some of the associated stigmatisms of race calipers.

O and i'm after a proper pedal box and everything else associated with the install if you can sorce these to.

Cheers

Ohhh rear conversions Now dont get me going, but whilst we are here and sharing a little knowledge then...

Compbrake do a rear caliper the "R2"

I can tell you that this is EXACTLY the same caliper that is fitted to most of the Audi range (The TT and TT Convertables for deffo)

If you walked into an Audi dealer they would cost you on average Ł186 each (maybe plus vat).

Exactly the same caliper with Compbrake milled on to the side will set you back around Ł65

How can the dealer justify selling the EXACT same thing for that price ??
Its because they do and people are willing to pay it.

Same as for AP's IMHO.

Anyway so as not to upset people can you email/phone them direct please details are on www.compbrake.co.uk and ask the technical questions yourself

If once your sorted and you need further help give me a shout

I agree, I used to deal with compbrake on the pug stuff and was shifting a lot of gear for him over 5k a month, but then people could get them cheaper direct and blew my margins out. Then his ebay sites too, cant run a business that way.
Its just an amateurish outfit with a good quality product. If they were more professional and had distributers rather than any tom dick and harry selling from their bedroom with no contracts etc etc.

I developed a few products for the 106 and didnt get any exclusivity when i supplied the designs and ideas, he supplied everyone else!

For what they are, they are VERY well priced, but having seen the amount they flex compared to APs, I find it hard to believe some of the comments that have been posted.

On Churchy's car (Sapphire 4x4), you can actually see the caliper flexing as the pedal is pumped while the car is stationary. Although it doesn't seem to affect braking, it can't be a good thing if the car is to be used on track, and it would always be in the back of my mind.

Unless the design has changed, then you can see why they do this, as it is the way the two parts of the calliper are linked (just by four steel pins). Compare these to the APs or most other two piece callipers, and you can see where the extra rigidity is obtained on the APs.

Obviously as a budget improvement over the standard brakes, they are great, but if it was my money, instead of buying the full front and rear Comp kit, I would buy just the AP front 4-pot arrangement.

At the end of the day, you pay's ya money and ya makes ya choice.

Glad Mike mentioned the caliper flexing issue.

I got a set for a mates P1 and couldn't believe how much they flex, however they do work well but nothing near as good as a similar AP 330 setup.

Price though reflects that, I dont think their discs are that expensive too replace either unlike AP ones
