Default Saff bottom end rebuild advice please.

Hi! i have decided im going to rebuild the engine in my 4x4 sapphire early in the new year and need some advice on compression ratios.Eventually as money permits i would like to be running a reliable 400 to 450bhp so the rebuild will obviously be done with this in mind.Do i really need to go low compression? if so what would be the right ratio to go for?All input greatly recived as i have only had the car 6 months so all this is abit new to me! and before anyone tells me i do realise the standard gearbox wont take this and am thinking about a rayland straight cut fix it kit.Thanks.
