I bought this 1989 2.9 XR4x4 in Jan 2006 off ebay for £126!!

first job was to steam clean underneath as it was caked in mud oil etc, the car wasn't in too bad a shape except for the rear end damage this was caused by the previous owner donuting the car into a wall I even got to see a video of the accident happening!!

I first set about getting it running properly a set of plugs did the trick, Then the interior was stripped to find some floor rot ,that was soon welded up.
I sourced parts through pf and ebay these included a new rad, steering rack, a stainless exhaust (a bargain at £50)
I fitted an electric fan from a p100 pick up (free power!!!)
I then started the rear end repair, I gave up trying to knock the damage out and so cut the rear quarter and floor section out of a scrap sierra this was then fitted to the car I drilled out the spot welds on the rear chassis leg then straightened it out and fitted the new floor 1/4 to this, my m8 off here jacko then prepped and painted it for me he did a great job
(cheers m8)

I then started the "upgrades" 4x4 cossie front brakes were sourced then I realised I needed the hubs aswell more expense!!
fitted these aswell as poly bushes to the front and koni's all round, a safety devices roll cage turned up on ebay in mint condition the guy even delivered it to me all for 150 quid
the seats also came from ebay and the harnesses from a guy upgrading to fia spec ones
I then found some 16" slicks on ebay for £80 these were fitted to some mondeo alloys I had lying around (the best thing I ever did!!)

the car had it's first outing in june at teesside autodrome and never missed a beat apart from overheating and blebing a tyre on my last lap!!
I then bought 2 brand new slicks for the durham derbyshire regional day in july the car was again faultless and the grip was amazing!!
around this time I came accross a scorpio cosworth near me with "apparant" engine failure, I bought it for £60 yes thats right 60 quid!!!
I then found the fault with the smoking engine 9.5 litres of oil in the engine!!! the owner had been filling up the engine oil instead of the gearbox which had a leak!!!

over this winter I will be carrying out the 24V transplant ready for more track action next year
