If a car is fitted with an engine that is proven to be of an older age, does it have to pass the emissions test for the older engine or the car it is fitted to ?
thanks

One way or another I'm fitting a 1988 5 litre V8 to an EsCos, if it is easier to start with a Q plate with visual smoke test I would have gone that way.
So in theory you could fit an RS500 engine to a late model EsCos and not have to past the CAT test ?

spot on
The V5 (photocopy) of the old engines will do
But it is up to the mot man's discression... but it is a known fact so most are ok with it.

i had trouble with MOT testers who refused to accept that this was the case before... if they give you any stick, make sure you argue the case and MAKE them look it up in the book
