Default Media Player Help Pleeeeease!!

to help my good friend at work, cos it's christmas..

we have 2 new identical computers - with one difference.. mine plays windows media files on the net.. previews on Amazon for example and my friends refuses to

i have checked simple stuff like the file associations are appropriate, we've downloaded a newer version of media player even though mine hasn't been updated or anything etc

have run out of ideas
Help!

No error message comes up, it just tries to connect and can't

* Apparently WinAmp was previously installed, but then uninstalled when this problem started

here is an example of one of the sites it doesn't work on
if you click on the emboldened name to listen to the tracks (about half way down the page) mine plays fine and the other computer just does nothing
