Default Youth of today - Dipshits........

[rant mode]

Well, one of the things that really pisses me off is the amount of people these days that just make no effort with their spelling and grammar.

I understand that some people aren't as clever as others and cannot spell some of the more complex words. Fair enough. However, those that blatantly and pointlessly alter words deserve to be discriminated against when it comes to jobs etc, as was found in this study......

http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/...556566,00.html

Take words like.....

'WIV' instead of 'WITH'
'EVA' instead of 'EVER'
'DINT' instead of 'DID NOT' or even the acceptable abbreviation of 'DIDN'T'
'WOT' instead of 'WHAT'
'FINK' instead of 'THINK'

What ever school do the people go to that type like this? Surely it takes more effort to think of the alternative for the word that you were taught at school to use? In most cases, the words aren't even abbreviated, so it's not like it even saves time.

Thick CUNTS.

Does my head in too! Have to admit however that it annoys me equally when everyone over the age of 30 expects anyone under the age of 20 to be an illiterate halfwit!

I try and avoid stereotyping people, but I have to say that from my observations, people in the 15-25 age bracket that can actually string a 'proper' sentence together without even one of these cunt-words in it are becoming uncommon.

I know it's not totally restricted to that age-group, but it seems to be where it's most common. I reckon the mobile phone is to blame! People are trying to cram as much as possible into the 160 characters that they get for 10 pence and it just leads to them talking/typing like that all the time.

So, perhaps it's because they are 'tight-wads'??

My mum is 50 and she enjoys sending me ''txts'' ending with ''lv u, c u sn''. At first I though ''sn'' was her forgetting which gender her only child was!

Does my bloody nut

People don't make the effort anymore. Surely it's harder to write in text speak as you have to think about changing an english word into drivel anyway?

I admit on Msn I do have a habit for ''wot''...but I do spell it properly if it's anything other than talking to somebody who knows I enjoy using it to feel a bit stupid on occasion

The thing that really annoys me though is people who write all in capitals, or all without capitals, and then use no punctuation. It's just load and loads of grouped incoherant letters. AHHHHHHHH

Bad grammar and punctuation winds me up a little, but you have to accept that not everyone passed english at school. (Including me)

What really gets my back up though is CAPITAL LETTERS ALL THE TIME and i can't beleive the number of people who say "Brought" as in "I brought it off Ebay" instead of "Bought"

There.

it is so easy to point out issues with the way in which others present communication rather than examine and resolve these same issues within ourselves. It is somewhat ironic that some complaining in this thread is not done in a manner which is grammatically correct.. Perfect grammer has never used abbreviated terms such as can't, did'nt, don't and so on.... yet this seems acceptable, however it is unclear regarding what level of bastardization of the English language we are ok with.

Its a fact that language and communication evolves otherwise we would currently be sitting in caves grunting at one another and perhaps the text message generation are continuing this evolution.

Is what you say less important than how you say it ?

I personally believe these 'language' issues are often related to the communication tool of that time and because we are now in 'txt' generation many of the words miss-spelt are done so because this is how they are presented in 'txt' usually across a mobile phone network

words such as 'Phone' or 'With' is often expressed in writing, job applications, letters and other media the same way as though sms or mobile phone text as in 'ill fone u l8ter n c wot we doin or who we r owt wiv' .... its a feature of the mobile phone generation

I do not simply recall being subject to such a poor standard of written communication prior to the mass uptake of cheap mobile phones

got 2 agree with that!!!! every kid talks with a jamacan accent/slang around my area even the english and asian kids. sometimes have to ask the indian boys around my area if their parents talk with jamacan accents and they reply with the deepest voice "NAA BLUD, NAA BLUD, JUS HOW DA MANDEM TALK SO MAN PICK IT UP.... U GET ME...

but have to say when txts costs 10p a txt it is useful to shorten words even when u have to think about it and it takes a bit longer but for work, formal things always write proper english!

I was thinking the exact same thing earlier actually.... Not so much about the "txt type" shit we get now, as even I abbrieviate some of my words (for example, lots of thimes I will just type "thru" instead of "through", etc - but not to the extent of "FFS wsh it wud jus stop raining 2day, pissn me off, catch u l8er" and all thst bollocks) and also not completely abotu spelling (as although I am educated (no, really ) even I spell shit wrong sometimes.....

But it's people's inability to work out what words to use that fucks me off...

Earlier I read a thread, where one poster said something along the lines of "he's really nice and I liked he's book"

What? "He's" book? Do you mean "HIS" book?

Sentences with words (even correctly spelt words) that just don't seem to make any sense, as they are the wrong words, but "almost" sound right - it's that that really pisses me off!

FFS!

Really annoys me too but texts dont bother me as much as I send very few. Most of us have MSN or ring each other.

Main annoyance is on here. It is a computer with full keyboard functionality and no character limitation.

Sad thing is, I think back 15 years ago to my mid secondary school years and the amount of guys who paid no attention as all they wanted to be was a labourer that required no writing/spelling (not a dig at that trade by the way). Now with the Internet having evolved, their grammar and spelling is thrust into the limelight like they would never have believed.
