ive got the black knob off but theres like a had plastic knob thing underneath. if i cut this off will it effect the lift up reverse feature.cause the plastic thing has got any screws holding it on so i cant see any other way of getting it off, but cutting and ripping it off. i just dont want the reverse thing to f**k up????

twisting can snap the lift up reverse...

i found this out on my old XR4x4

get a BIG pair of pliers n pull the fucker off...

if that fails... get the hacksaw out n cut it off

you should leave the hard plastic bit on, the new gearknob should fit over this and is held in place by an allen key, (ours do)
