new project
Right, bascially ive been away from the turbo'd ford scene for a while
and missed it,
so im back with an idea
but need some advice please.
I had an s2 hence the name so now I was thinking about a s1 but due to funds that aint
gona happen.
So wanting a mk3 and having a s2 engine, box, loom and mint full 90 spec
interior to hand, I was thinking about getting a XR3 and turbo'in it
What I want to know is could I literally put my spares straight into the mk3?, would the engine n
box mount up? and would the interior swap, obviously with a dash change?
If I decide to keep the original interior could I wire up the old connector plugs for clocks etc onto the s2 loom?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be a great help. thanks

Hi mate, ive just started doing a similar thing
Im making a track car out of a mk3 XR3i, but i just bought a non running S2 (Non running because of a gearbox prob).
I plan to fit the engine, dash and loom out of the S2, but the gearbox casings and mounts are different, so an S2 box wont fit.
The S2 interior should fit in a Mk3, maybe with a few minor changes (eg the door cards on an s2 clip and screw on slightly differently to the MK3 XR ones)
Also the rear seat in my XR has a single peice back, so folds down in one. The S2 has a two peice one so needs the extra bracket near the middle. I dont know how difficult it would be to fit this bracket?
Dont know about the loom behind the clocks, i am pretty certain the multiplugs will differ but it cant be too much trouble to put S2 plugs on, with the help of wiring diagrams...
I havent really been much help have i?

With regards to the interior, im gona strip out the back and have a half cage, so ill only put in the dash, door cards and recaros. I cant see why it should cause any probs just wondered if anyone had come across any. If so I was planning to keep it original but moddify the loom but that sounds like grief.
And the box, im gona get stg2 internals with diff in a s1 housing if possible!?

You should have no trouble with the interior then, just the door card fixings as i mentioned.
The S2 has a couple of screws around the edges, but the XR ones dont, but they should fit no probs with minor mods as they will be the same shape
It will be much easier using the S2 loom with S2 engine and dash, although you will still need to mod little bits of the loom to fit the Mk3 (Rear number plate lights for instance, Mk3 has 2, Mk4 has 1)
Gearbox sounds good! thats what i want for mine

My very first car i built was a mk3. I fitted a mk4 xr3i interior if i remember correctly the door cards need a bit cut out for the door handle.
I think the mk4 doors are the same so you could use them. As for the dash i think it fitted straight in. I used the mk4 loom but you could easy splice the mk4 electricals into the mk3. The back seats i can't remember if there is a bit for bolting the middle bracket on or i welded the bracket.
You can easily fit mk4 bumpers needs a few bits cut and filed they look quite nice with the mk3 grille. When i done this my mate had written of an xr3i at the time so i had access to all the parts apart from engine and box.
Brings back some good memories.
