You don't have to touch the cams mate, just make sure its at tdc when you loosen the belt and it's easy.
If you are unsure its worth getting someone with experience to help or do it.

cant the cams turn freely once you remove the head and they are under no tension from the belt?

it's not too difficult to be honest, defo need a friend to help you lift it off etc,and refit it,the cams timing is fairly easy too, just have to make sure all of the pointers are in the right place when the belt is fitted (i have a picture of the correct aligment somewhere which will help.....ill find it asap)

out of interest, where has the gasket failed?

does it still run fine? no misfires/smoke etc? is it smokey in the morning (white smoke)?

are there any leaks down the exhaust side of the block, towards the back?

Presumably Karl wire rung it? if so i doubt it has gone around the fire rings

any other symptoms?

it does run but it seems very lumpy and smokey as hell, and every time it comes on any kind of boost it shoots oil out the breather,

there doesnt appear to be any visable leaks

yes it was Karl that rung it
