Default Hot Starting Problem & Misfire

my car hasn't been driven for about 2 months. i drove it to portsmouth the other day and it has developed a starting problem when hot.

when i started it, it sounded like it was firing on 3 cylinders and it idled at around 500rpm. when revved it was backfiring and generally sounded sh*t i had to keep starting it until it fired up properley and idled at 1000rpm and was smooth.

then after getting it started properly, it developed a misfire on full throttle. at one point flat out in third, it was as if it hit a rev limiter @ 4000rpm and all i got was popping from the exhaust and it wouldn't go any faster

any ideas?

i don't love you either

The hot starting prob on mine was caused by a bad earth. replaced the cable from battery to starter, still available from ford. Problem solved but minus love!!! LOL

sounds like the timing may be out, if you had a plug or lead gone down it would miss but shouldnt bang

Could be the 'perenial'.....large plug on rear of ECU. Disconnect it and clean the pins up with a little fine grade wet and dry. I've had this happen on 3 of mine over the years. Car sounds like it's got anti lag (without the power obviously) one min then after doing the above it's perfect. Good luck

I had a similar sounding prob recently and it turned out to be the distributor.
Just cruising in traffic at about 40 the car started misfiring badly, first thoughts were that something had gone badly wrong with the timing / valve gear or something. Really sounded rough, like running on 2 pots.

After a load of timing checks and head scratching it ended up being the 3 pin pick up plug socket on top of the dizzy. It had become loose and the wires were bare and frayed inside.

New dizzy and away it went

yeah it sounded like a subaru impreza, and had no power, and we can't have that!

also the engine got really hot, that the manifold started glowing!

i will address those issues at the weekend,

the thing is i wanna convert to EFI which would rule out all of these problems

i know you guys loved me really
