does the insert in the rear beam on a 4x4 have to be that size?

it seems as though the steel insert is about 20mm longer than the bush.
can i cut mine of flush to give me a bit more ground clearance?
cheers

now ive studied it i have the solution
drill the chassis bracket to the diameter of the bush insert so that it slides in & sits flush. then cut a length of steel pipe to length & slide it over the steel insert. then simply fit a washer on top of that, put the bolt up through & stick a lock not on. for extra strengtn u could weld the outer pipe to the chassis bracket. job done. u have the advantage of having access to the top side of it as opposed to the sierra chassis leg which is obviously enclosed. hope thast sorts it
