the numbers are the feedback left from sellers or buyers, the stars are just crap ebay give you the more you get.
if you click on the number you can see comments from the buyers / sellers, that they have left that person, or the person has left them.
not sure what morcheens on about tho?

As online shopping evolves, eBay continues to focus on preserving our marketplace's open and level playingfield whilst protecting our Community of members. We have decided to change how bid history information is displayed so unscrupulous people cannot target bidders with fake offers using this information. In certain cases, some bidders will no longer be able to see other bidder's User IDs on the listing page. Your User ID will be shown only to you and the seller of the item you're bidding on. Other members will see an anonymous name, such as Bidder 1, Bidder 2 etc.

They are hiding the bidders true name on anything above Ł100 to try and stop fake second chance offers, the winning bidders name is shown at the end of the auction I believe.

It started this week, the seller can see who's bidding, but to everyone else it comes up with bidder, then depending on how many people bid, the number, so for instance if there are 4 people bidding on the item it'll come up with Bidder1, Bidder2 etc

I've had a few scamers send FAKE!! second chance offers to some of my buyers on ebay (and a few have lost money 
) so now all my auctions are private. It's got nothing to do with hiding anything i state in my auction's that if the winning bidder want's a list of the bidders then i will email them one so they can see that there's no foul play in my auctions it stop's all the fucking scamers getting your hard-earned money and you getting nothing
