ive never flown one but ive seen them being flown when i was about 9, i think they are pretty tricky and dangerous if you get it wrong, best bet is joining a local club and go along, someone will help you out, i think the fuel is done on a time basis, ie a tank full will last 20 mins so you keep an eye on ur watch

They do say that if you can fly a r/c helicopter, you could fly the real thing...

GET INSURED (3rd party)

buy a modelling mag, join the organizing body and get help.
you can get a pc-based training device that works with your transmitter.

flying the real thing is supposed to be a piece of p*ss compared to these, as at least you can feel whats happening! with a model you rely on seeing things happen.

i raced model touring cars at a quite serious club level for a while, and we relied a fair bit on an observer when tuning the suspension. so you need someone who's done it before to guide you, someone to run after it when it goes mentalistic, and someone to gee you up when it gets scary!

and someone with a broom and a black sack!!!

just about the coolest thing i've ever seen was a model helicopter gas turbine engine being run up on a stand at a model show. sounded exactly like a real jet (i suppose because it is) absolutely AWESOME!!!

good luck.

dude... seriously, get someone who knows what they're doin to help you out.

I cant say this enough... DO NOT TRY TO FLY IT ALONE IF YOU NEVER FLOWN BEFORE.

around 2k rpm just to lift the model off the floor, and the speed they pick up...

from firing the model up havin your arm chopped off could be less than 60seconds !

no pets, children, cars, houses or anything.... proper wankers when its windy too !

http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html <--- get this... play for a week or so with a PS2 style game pad... kinda like the heli control with the 2 sticks... even then your only 5% to becommin a model flyer !

it really is as hard as they say !

RE: the running out of fuel at 60ft up... it's called an "Auto-rotation" if i remember right... you do it when practicin, one of the toggle switches on the remote will shut the throttle to idle position but still leave you with the lift/decent control.....

kill the engine at what ever height... I started at 6ft up then you lower the stick, as if to bring the model down... the downward motion will keep the head spinning and keep up the head's rpm, then about a foot from the floor bring in the upward pitch again to hover and use the remaining head rpm to lower the model in... if you follow me !!?

Looked the absolute bollox!!!
Untill it fooked off and plumitted about 40 foot to it,s death

I used to have one last year, Very cool sold it when I was skint though

Took me all last summer practicing but could fly it round quite well in the end. You need to get it checked by a model shop before you fly it as if its coming by post it will be dismantled (rear boom off, blades etc) They will set it up and take it for a test flight, make sure it isn’t going to kill you first time you start it you don’t want to get near those blades when it on full pelt as they spin at 200MPH !!

They are the hardest things to fly and requires the smallest of inputs from the controller and constant correction, some people never manage to get out of the hover!! But its a real laugh until you crash (and you will) which is expensive.

hmmmm not to sure what that is.. Could be a Shuttle. It is a 30 size machine which are the cheapest to replace parts anyway. Looks like it has an OS engine they are the best around too You will have some great fun with that but I suggest you join a club, bit anorak I know but you really do need help when learning to fly these things as it could kill you.. no joke.

Starting it is fairly easy, you can’t crank the blades you need an electric starter and the hex rod to put in the engine and turn it over. It has a clutch so the blades don’t start spinning until the engine revs build. Just keep you hand on them to be sure.

Have a look at http://www.runryder.com/ very good yank site that has loads of info

Blimey pull start.. not heard of those before. Sounds like its all there though, you will need a glow starter with 12V battery, fuel pump, and some training under carriage also. Shame your over the water or I could have given you a hand.

The fuel pump is just a hand pump which pumps the fuel in & out the tank. They are only around a Ł10. If you get stuck let me know, im not an expert but know the basics & maybe able to help you out

they are good when you get the hang of it... but go steady....

Tip 1. buy a hula hoop and a length of 12mm dowling. hoop should be about same size as your rotor blades.

make 4 holes inside the hoop at 90degree's and make a cross, tie-rap the 2 sticks together in the center.

then... sit the model in the middle so the cross is diagonal to the model... tie-rap the undercarrage/ski legs to the sticks.

Result ? Massive base which helps you to stop the model tippin over when learnin to hover, take off, land etc etc.... it works fookin mint
