ok this new car has a decent stereo... and i know feck all about ICE so dunno how its supposed to be set up
and it was a bit distorty when the bass was tuned up...
the car's got decent speakers all round, 6x9s i the shelf, 3 sets of tweeters etc. etc. n 2 12inch subs in the boot
its got 2 amps... some big philips one (6040 i think) most of the speakers (there are defo 2 speakers not amped up tho) and a little one powering the 2 subs and is 2 channel (i think its 100w one doin the subs)
the philips one has no adjustment on it so ive left that... but the little one doin the subs has gain (-2 to +2) crossover (on/off) and filter (high/low)
it was set up with gain +2, crossover off, filter high and the subs were facing the rear seats (was pushed up against the back too)
ive just changed it to: gain +2 (same) crossover on, filter low... also ive turned the subs around to theyre facing into the boot
is this right?
the sound is now more crisp, but i can barely hear the bass... its nowhere near as thumpy as it was unless you turn the bass right up on the headunit(which the normal speakers dont like too much)
is this right? should i put it back how it was? wahst the proper way of setting em up?

jim ya ideally need a headunit that can control the xub channel seperate
next time i se ya il have a play, back in the old days iw as a bit into me stereo
what ya set ya gain too, rember dont set it all the way up as ya could blow te subs
oh and ya only want low bass for subs, ya not gonna hear treble through the boot as the wy the lines move, bass lines move slower and vibrate
ill have a look next time i see ya ( say this week when i collect me computer

the headunit is sony jobby (quite old) dont think it has seperate sub channel
(know wot u mean tho, my mtes pioneer has that)
its deffo got RF out tho as all the subs have RF connectors on the input side (6 today going in,but dunno how many of them are joined) i havent had the headunit out yet to look how its wired up there (but i know its wrong as the stereo stays on when you kill the ignition...

Try changing the filter switch - you want it to be low pass or high cut - not sure what way round yours will be. It will be quite obvious which is the right way for that switch as you listen to it.
thats not wrong
just means the red wire is joined to the direct feed for the batt too ( infact the sony loom allows ya to do that anyway
ill have a look and if ya need any stuff ill see what i got to improve it

Slide the headunit out of the dash and and on the top of the unit there will be a swith, just switch ot over the other way and it should kill the stereo with the ignition.

there should be 2 blue wires, 1 light blue and 1 dark blue, light blue is the phone interupt and the dark blue is the electril ariel and remote for the amps
as oranpcp says, dont touch ya cal till someone qualified is there beside ya

ah bollocks now the CD changer's stopped workin...
didnt think it felt like it was secured in properly... lol
the wiring behind the dash is a mess tho, lots of twisted together wires n stuff, not even got tape over em!
methinks im gonna tae it to some ice specialist n get em to have a proper look over it n set it all up pukka with crossovers n stuff if needed, n rewire the thing properly, soldered n heatshrunk etc. etc. i COULD do it myself, but kowing me i'd have abouit 30 screws left over at the end and a squeaky dashboard
who y'all reccomend (proper company preferably) what about audio image'? i seena lot of people that use em n stuff
