Default camcorder,tapes question

right im looking to buy a new camcorder, but still not to sure what i want yet.
dont want to spend to much really, only about £500 really.and it has to be small.
one that i have been looking at is the new sanyo one that records in mpeg-4 format.what the fook does that mean but i like the fact it only weighs 155 gms
also my main question really,my old cam was one that used 8mm/hi-8 tapes but the cam is fooked now.how can i either get these onto video or onto a dics, anyone know?

you can get normal VHS casette type things that you put a 8mm tape into! then you can put em ina normal VCR! they been about for years

as for camcorder...if possible, go digital

mini dv is probably the most popular format as the tapes are very small and so are the camcorders.

use the price comparison sites like:-

http://www.kelkoo.co.uk/
http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/

i saved £150 on my camcorder buying from one of the sites above compared to the price in Argos

pops i'm 99% sure you can only play 8mm tapes in an 8mm camcorder. if your camcorder is knackered you can pay a video transfer place to do it but they ain't cheap OR borrow someone's 8mm camcorder and transfer them!
