Ian (Racetek) didnt have a genuine one.

Genuine ones dont mate directly up as a straight swap for the 4x4 manifold, cant remember what bits dont fit, but they dont

If its meant to mate up to the WRC IHI turbo then i doubt the manifold/turbo flange fits either.

And doubt its good for much power as WRC cars are barely over 300bhp...

AFAIK you would be better off converting to the original 2WD type, especially if you are after big power. The 2WD ones flow really well and are quite cheap........if fitting a T34 or T4 you will require a damper/hanger.

The Mountune 4WD version was prob developed to help minimise the effect of the mandatory 34mm restrictor

From Mountune site:

Exhaust manifold (WRC) Ref: C726
This cast tubular manifold was developed for WRC use in order to improve flow characteristics of exhaust gases between cylinder head and turbo. The manifold will accept either a WRC IHI turbo or a Garrett type turbo.

All well and good....................BUT Ł620.00 + VAT

I mean how much better than a 2WD drive is the Mountune item?

We "know" that the the cheap as chips standard 2WD manifold is good for 500 BHP and beyond..........At the price Mountune are charging you are well into the price bracket of custom built units with external w/gate provision.......with maybe some change left over

i got a feeling it places the turbo in a different position to standard, meaning modded boost pipes, modded downpipe, and possible problems with it hitting the brake resovior etc on RHD cars...

and of course 2wd costs 50quid and is good for 600+...

That'll be the 'Mountune tax' Doug, lol Look what they want for a bare block ......

I tend to agree with what you say, just posted that up for reference, and to clear up the 'what turbo' issue.

the manifold looks good.

i was looking for a manifold without using a turbodamper. thats why i'm asking around about the manifold.

do the tubular ones crack or do they last the sort of mileages you would want on a road car?
nice weight saving from up high though

The Cossie dampers are no problem to fit or maintain.........and not too expensive either. But the damper to me is as close to a "bodge job" from the factory as it's possible to get.......IIRC there is a resonance inherent in the YB engine was causing the 2WD manifold to fail - even while Cosworth were doing early dyno development at light loadings/low/modest revs

the manifolds were not the problem, newtons third law is the turbo tries to twist the manifold off the head due to the reaction against the exhast gasses hence why a damper is needed

becasue the 4x4 manifolds are much shorter /stiffer in torsion they dont need a damper

If a tubular manifold is cracking, I'd suspect the material.

321 stainless is *much* more resistant to cracking than 304 stainless.

Wall thickness will obviously play a part as well
