A mate has just had an accident in his car that he's only had for 2 days!!!! He changed the insurance over when he went to pick it up, but it had no tax. He was waiting for the insurance to come through the post so he could tax it (should arrive in the morning), then this happens. The accident was not his fault, but he's not sure what to do now as he shouldnt really of been driving it. He's not sure whether to ring the insurance up now, or wait until the morning once its taxed.

Would no tax void the insurnace, even if he taxes it as soon as the insurnace docs arrive?

Any help on this is appreciated.

IIRC having no car tax doesnt affect your Insurance ..it just entitles the DVLA squad to hammer you with wheel clamps, towing costs, etc ...just make sure the car gets taxed!

 

I think the insurance will be ok but surely the car shouldn't be on the road with no tax in the window therefore if this was noticed when he had a bump it could be tricky come claim time

 

He knows he shouldnt have driven it, but he thought as he'd be paying for all november anyway, he'd use it until the docs came. He's worried that the insurnace will check to see the date it was taxed thats all.
