Default Help Whinning rs1800 gear box/engine

Hiya

Ive recently starting hearing this whining noice coming from the engine....seems to whine when going up through the revs (mainly in 1st & 2nd) and when I come off the acc and let the revs drop! Car starts and drives fine and goes through the gears ok.

I know my clutch is getting near replacing so I thought maybe it was the thrust bearing whining but now I’m beginning to think its the gear box

(In general the gearing seems fine apart from the odd clunk into gear which is mainly lazy gear changing?)

I’m going to check gearbox oil later, maybe even change it for something thicker.

Any thoughts on this?

Just went for a drive and knocked it out of gear and the noise definatly went!

Dave, did you mean to say if the noise goes it IS the box?
