Amber performance do them, so do GGR and as karl said it's not good news!! especially when you see the price as you don't really have a cheap option!!

cheers bud, thanks, i dont think i can stretch to that at the moment, I can maybe get the ARP head bolts and the coopers gasket, that will be Ł500, whilst im at it il do the timing belt and tensioners, and replace the exhaust gasket.

the engines only done 35000 miles and seems sweet as a nut top and bottom end, I cant understand why its gone like this !

it should be already well balanced its its built by rondell stage 3

regards Glen

I've heard lots of people have trouble with ringed blocks and headgaskets. If the wire isn't put in perfect it doesn't last long. Good luck

Whitneyd, Coopers ring gaskets are different to wire ringing - generally, and from others and my own experience, Coopers are less reliable.

cheers bro, as far as I know it lasted 35k miles at 1.6 bar boost, so hopefully it aint to bad and it will last longer once sorted for me as im a steady driver not a thrasher or track day fellow.

will start saving for a new improved engine once I get this sorted

cheers Glen

Your next engine would be far better off with a new block and genuine WRC 4 layer MLS head gasket.

p.s. did you mean Jondel as opposed to Rondell?

If you put new wire in make sure that the wires butt together well with the ends as flat against each other as possible. I not positive but I think there is a special heat and re-torque procedure. You should ask around to make sure. It helps to be a perfectionist in this game.

Yes I agree, wire ringing + one or the late Es Cos head gaskets is very reliable. If it's done properley wire rings are good for 400 BHP (approx 28 lbs/psi)..and prob even more!

Sorry about that. I hear so many people saying Coopers ring and meaning wire ring. To me both aren't the best way to go.

No worries Whitneyd, of course you were only being helpful

As per Doug, my previous EsCos was wire ringed (properly) and proved very reliable for me.

You know, I nearly posted that it may just work out cheaper in the long run to get a new block (circa Ł600) and go MLS gasket route, but then you may need new pistons etc depending on condition of yours etc... to get the best from the package. Obviously you just want your motor back on the road a.s.a.p. at the moment.

It *may* also be possible to have the Coopers channels 'removed' from the block (it's been mentioned on here before), but I don't know what other issues this may cause as regards compression ratio etc., and it would be an engine out job, but you get to keep your low milage engine intact, and then be able to use a more reliable gasket.

May be worth contacting a tuner direct for your options.

Oh shit mate, sorry to hear this

Lads, is it not possible to get the block decked, then fit a WRC Multi layer HG & get it remapped for new c/r? I would have thought so & wouldn't this be a cheaper option than getting another bottom end rebuilt.......especially as the engine is sweet otherwise?

cheers lads, points all noted thank you, I think what il do for now is take the pain get the coopers gasket, get new standard head studs and fix it for the moment, then what Il do is look for a new engine, that I can put in, once thats in, il get my own low miles motor rebuilt to good spec as per advice from members here.

think thats the way to go, cheers billabong

Thanks mate..........

Built by the "Harvester".......so it's the best!

And to stop this post turning into an all out tuner war, I should add:

"Other engine builders/tuners here on PassionFord also build fantastic engines too"

Except the one called IMA.................avoid like the plague
