Default Newbie advice needed :D

Hello all,

I've recently sold my subaru impreza and after paying off some debts (just purchased a house!!) I should have around £4000 to buy another fast car.

Now I've ALWAYS wanted a 2wd cossie for some mad tail end fun but I'm a bit of a novice about these cars.

Can anyone tell me what I need to look out for, I'm after a modified one if possible, over 300bhp would be nice.

Thanks for your help,

Scott,

First things first, rust.

Get the car in the air if you can, and check underneath, as that's the killer. You want to check the rear chassis rails, and the sills under the rear doors, as that's where they go first.

Secondly, check external rust, especially around the wheel arches and the screen and window rubbers.

As for the other stuff, it's usual sensible car buying.........

I have a good mate with a 2wd for sale and it is in V V Good condition, putting out just over 320bhp. Only ever drives it when its dry cos he's scared of it so if you decide on one give me a shout

Whatever mods it's had make sure they've been done properly, cos it could(and probably will) cost you a fortune to get it right. Spent about £800 on mine over the winter and that was nothing serious!!
Happy hunting.

Stage 1 gives about 270 bhp, which is faster than most Scoobs anyway. There isn't really a stage 2, but next step is stage 3 which gives about 320-330bhp and involves different injectors and a 3 Bar MAP sensor to be added and a different chip again. Reliability can be a bit dodgey at this level, with rear diffs blowing if you do launches. You also need a breather kit, and at least a 4x4 if not an RS500 intercooler at this level of tune. Standard turbo's won't last long either, so a T34 hybrid is ideal.

Personally, if you are used to a Scoob, and 4x4, a stage 1 Cossie RWD will scare you to death anyway, and if it is your only car, will be much more reliable IMO.
