Default Strange RR Results? **NOW WITH GRAPHS**

Ok,i went to P.T.S. on Saturday for a RR run, i came back with 186bhp at the fly, and 234 torque!!!

ive never thought there would be that much difference between the two?

any ideas why it is?

AFAIK the only mods i have are:
Full exhaust
Chip (running 15psi)
Cosworth fuel pump.

But i do think the Gearbox is a diesel with an lsd. Would this make any difference?

Can you scan the graph and post it?

That does seem like a little too much Torque. Wheelspin could cause that amongst other things.

Without wanting to sound awful, 186bhp is probably a little on the high side too. Does it have a standard Intercooler?

Real RST gearbox's all have LSD anyway.
Wouldn't diesel gearbox's just be a bit stronger and maybe have different gearing in (which would not influence power, just acceleration and top speed) ?

Will try and get the graphs scanned in.

yes it was a standard intercooler.

i bought the car with the mods unknown,so those are the only mods i can prove, ive always thought there must be something extra done, but cant prove it?

ive always thought it is very quick for what it is.

the gearing on the box is long, well over 120 in 4th gear, but it defo has an lsd.

oh, and peak power is at 5000rpm...also i hit the redline at 6000rpm.

PTS rollers have a habit of reading high on torque i think

When i had my zvh power tested it came out with 235hp 300lbs @ 14psi. I know the zetec/zvh's are torquey engines but thats steep.

diesel gearboxes arent stronger are they?just have taller gearing.and 186 bhp on a standard cooler, impressive although never knew that was all that achievable. If true, kick on though to you!!

High Torque readings usually indicate slip of some kind. There may have also been an issue with RPM accuracy. Did the operator connect anything to the engine? For example a 'clamp' onto an HT lead?

If not, he may have relied on the car's tacho for an RPM reading and these are usually MILES out, which would have an impact on the result.

Also, Alex, will you PURLEEEEEASE learn how to spell TORQUE.......

It's T O R Q U E.

Get it??!!

Diesel gearboxes aren't stronger at all, they just have different ratios! So apart from having different sized gears on the shafts, there are identical. Just another urban myth

Of course you could have a diesel box with an LSD fitted, no reason why it couldn't be done

I would say that the rolling road operator had an unreliable method of recording RPM. It's a quick, easy method to use the car's tacho, but with RST tacho's being so far out, the results are usually shit.

I wouldn't have expected an RST to stop making power at 5k, even on a standard turbo.

Hmmm going be my cars tacho, the needle will hit the redline at 6k(ive had two different sets of clocks in there), then it bounces and its like hitting a brick wall

So shite operator?

and still, whats the reason for having so much torque? compared to a more than average power?

The figures are pretty much scrap if the RPM reading was wrong. Next time you go, quiz the guy over what he uses to read RPM. If they could be bothered, they could use a pick-up that goes onto a plug-lead. It's hardly difficult, just some would rather wing-it and use the tacho.

If you want a good reliable figure, find someone with a Dyno Dynamics Dyno.

Now thats interesting as I'm running the same spec at the moment. Just cut out the bumper to provide better air flow to the intercooler. Don't know how fit my engine is, though. Have you ever done a compression test, dave?
