I had one for the wife (using my Ford employee discount
) and have to say it was superb. We chose one with all the options and were well pleased with the full Leather Recaros,Top stereo and the Xenon headlights were fantastic.also having a full spec car meant we were able to sell it on when the time came really easily
Just wanted to know if they are under powered, reliable, any faults, you know the usual stuff.
would you recomend it?
looking at having it for 4 years until its paid off, I figure a 170 won't devalue as much as the others and the spec should be good as std.
If I want leather that much I'll get it done later. 1/2 leather for £400 can't be bad!

hi,
underpowered...not really, the main difference for me was i went from an s2 turbo to the st170 and the power delivery was different,a lot smoother instead of a kick in the back, which i do miss.Should max out at about 135mph maybe a little more.0-60 in 7 ish seconds (standard)
The faults yes there is a few faults main ones being cat heat sheilds,Faulty hego sensors and i personally had a problem with the steering lock armoured sheild which took ford 7 weeks to find me 2 shear bolts
to rebolt the original back together after a bolt fell out
The car in its self is brilliant,i used to have t/a koni on my s2 and the ride was great but on the st170 in standard trim its a lot better, its like a go-cart,
The brakes are absolutely superb disk all round,
Petrol consumption should be up around 350ish to the tank about £40 about 36mpg ON A RUN not urban of which i dont bother checking,
Loads of boot space, tyers go at about 20,000 mls
and i must stress if you do buy one get as many optional extras you can afford,if you can see your way to getting full leather it will stand you in good stead,
if you were a bit closer i would let you take mine out,
i have thourght of selling mine recently as i feel the urge of a turbo car again
but indecisivness has let the chances go by...
still anything else i can help you with give us a shout

Online they are £15800 with metalic paint.
You thought it was slow after a S2! I've got a stg3 sapph so its going to be crap!!
Might have to go annoy the car sales men to see what kind of deal I can get.
Just wish the wife was happy with bangers

I also own a stage 3 saff and have recently bought an ST170. Got to say it took a bit of getting used to with the drop in power but that has got to be expected. As the above posts say the handling is spot on and i cant really fault it. Only problem has been a leaky pollen filter which lets water into the passenger footwell but other than that everythings ok. Best thing you can do is get one out on a road test and find some nice B roads. Ford gave us the demonstrator for a day no probs. Got mine for £12K in Imp Blue Registered Feb 04 with 4k miles on the clock from Ford.
I general the ST170 is a good car ............... but the few problems it has had the ford monkeys havent been able to fix yet
Mine has suffered from :
Squeeky Drivers seat - now fixed
Heat Shield rattling under car - still on going ( been in garage 5 times and a total of 8 full days for this fault
)
Passenger side window stopped working - now fixed
Good points :
Very good spec inside and out
Good fun to drive
Rev well
Pulls well with low down torque for a N/A engine
revs very high
fun car for every day use

Does yours make the metalic rattle at around 2000 rpm but only when the engine & exhaust is hot?
My ST has got to go back again and they want it for 3 days for them to fix it
Yes I do m8
I did get the noise at 1st when it was warm but does it at any time it feels like pissing me off now
Ive done the usual discarding the Cat sheild etc etc and now have come to the conclusion its the pas belt slipping weather its due to a faulty tensioner im still investigating even thou i work for ford your own car always seems to come last with the pure volume of work comming thru the workshop on a daily basis will let you know of any developments as and when i get them
Regards Doug

well i had this ratle at 1800rpm and it was for def the heat shield on the cat(not saying that its the same on all cars though)the thing is they dont remove the problem by doing things a different way they only put a new heat shield on of exactly the same,so the problem will re-ocure,thus no change, ive had this twice now and both times its been sorted....for a while
