A while back i was trying to source a suitable exhaust housing for my T34 4x4 cossie turbo so i could bolt my rs turbo elbow straight on and job done. But it seems i have got the wrong one See pics


Didnt even know there was diffrent sized wastegate flanges till now
Im so sick of this turbo shit at the moment im thinking of buying a new turbo of the equivlant spec with the right housings and ge it done. Im reluctant to spend anymore money on the old one as i not realy shure on the history or milage of it and it could cause me more problems in the long run so i think i should cut my losses and get a new turbo.
Where is the best place to buy a good turbo of the same sort of spec at a good price?

I had the same problem when I bought a new exhaust housing for mine. I ended up cutting a notch out of the elbow due to 3 of the holes not lining up and then making up some modified washers to enable everything to bolt up. I'll take some pics if you like. Mine now works a treat and it saves you wasting anymore money.

 

Cheers m8 im glad u mentioned that I was so fustrated the other day i totaly give up on it but now you have shown me some light at the end of the tunnel . Shouldnt need any pics m8 as im going to go a slightly diffrent approach and make up some proper keys so it should be as good if not better than the original fixings

 

It's eay enough to do with the right tools. I have 3 knackered exhaust housing that all have cracks in them 1 x 0.48 and 2 x 0.36 just need to find someone who can weld cast.

 

Iv noticed that most of the housings crack around the wastegate hole so what iv done with the new housing is lightly dremeled the sharp edges around the hole and then polished it with a fine peice of wet and dry to relive the edge which helps prevent the cracking of the hole. i bet if you look at you turbo you will see the cracking starts where the edge is sharp or slightly out of shape. Use to do the same thing for the same reason when i was a toolmaker. Works a treat

 

I didn't even think of that when fitting the new housing. I'll take it back out when I do my management swap.

 

Heat shock kills them

 

When i recived my new housing i noticed the hole aready had a slight indication of a hairline crack on the edge of the hole. probably caused from the casting process It was very very small that most people wouldnt even noticed it but i recon it would have eventually cracked through like they normally do By releiving the hole and the edge it was removed leaving a nice smooth, formed hole. Its no guarantee it wont eventually crack but it should definatly help the dreaded cracking

 

I actualy won that item on ebay from a member Ad4m RST off here but he now refuses to sell me the turbo as he says it went for too cheap but thats not my fault, When i asked him why he didn't put a reserve price on the item he stated it would have cost him a £40 charge ebay charge so he didn't bother what a Gent
