FAO Anyone with an RST replica project - insurance.
Getting to the point now deciding whether or not i go ahead with my project due to the main concern - INSURANCE
Premiums are set to rise due to NU's 40% increase. First question - anyone my age actually had thier premium increased because of this? Even after 1 years NCB being racked up?
Im 19, with one years NCB and am looking to fit an FRST lump into my 1.1 Fiesta along with all the other neccesary ancilliaries - reason being the shell is mint.
However what im wanting to know is how much more you've had to pay to insure your car as a 1.1 base shell (or likewise) with an RST engine and gearbox. Insurance companys don't like the idea of someone doing the conversions and prefer to quote cheaper for genuine RST's.
Any advice/personal expericnes would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.

I know of a guy who put a 3.5 V8 in a 1.8 sierra and it cost 1250 to insure, when he put the same motor into the same shape sierra cosworth it was going to cost him 3500 for basically the same car but because it was a cossy to start with they made the premium more???? Im 24 with a claim 3 days before i insured my 2.0 16v bodied mk2 fiesta and Adrian flux quoted me 800 plus i told them everything and i mean everything! I was well impressed and this year it went down to 650
insurance companys have a dimm view of "modding"
if your car is a 1.1 fiesta popular and u drop in a rs turbo lump, your car will be classed as a fiesta RS by the insurance company. there are many companys like adrian flux who specialists in modding motors.
i use barclays bank for my insurance its suprising how much i saved than with some "specialists"

Phoned up for a quote last year and they claimed they didn't offer insurance for modified cars - after my mate had just got insurance for his modified Corsa (mods declared) two weeks before. I told them this over the phone (this was in Dec) and they claimed they stopped offering modified insurcance in May previous to that?!
There've been a few dodgey insuracne companies cropping up reciently - even ones that have built up a good reputation but are not actually underwritten!!!

Basically ive got a mk3.5 solid car/shell and will be buying a rotten FRST and transfering ALL the bits over - what counts as a reshell and is it cheaper than a rep then?
Cheers
its a reshell if ur using the orininal tag from the rst or goin new reg
a reshell is just changing the shell of the car it would still be an frst unless u keep your new peg plates and insure as a kitted 1.1 (cheapy cheep)
a full rep is using all the rst bits and using the tag from the new car,
to be honest mate ring companies tell them your plan see what happens
i got insured on my ERST at 20 + 2yrs NCB for 700 quid
but it depends on how u feel about breaking the law..

personally i'd reshell into the 1.1 and insure it as a 1.1 fiesta witha turbo engine
