Default Opinions?? Is It, Isnt it??

I bought DOO's old turbo a few weeks ago, now most people know its a XR shell with Turbo bits, In your opinion would you keep the RS badges on? The number of people who keep calling it an XR is doin me head in! At the end of the day, its not like its got RS badges on and kept the XR engine/wheels/interior is it?? IMO its one of the tidiest, cleanest S2's ive seen, what do others think??

I would lose the badges for sure..... It is not an RS and having RS badges will not make it one....

That was not meant to be condesending at all - as I too think it is one of the cleanest examples around aswell - jsut like James Raby's and guess what? They are both XR3i's - so what does it matter?

What matters is what condition it is in, how well it was built and what parts were used..... But either way, it ain't an RS so I wouldn't have RS badges on there.....

But then, I don't like badges at all anyway

(PS, not being funny, but if your that bothered about people calling it an XR, then you should have thought carefully about buying it )

Fook what others think mate, she is your motor and a very nice one at that,
Ok so at heart she was born and bred a 3i. but seeing the spec of the car she will do very well against most S2.

Leave the badges on there mate. It doesnt matter what people think its what you think that matters.
The only reason i didnt go and look at that car is because I wasnt happy with it being a xr shell...ME not anyone else!!!!

No I wouldn't have mate And I know that if I was in the market for a S2 I would have DEFFO wanted to buy it (but wanted another S1 instead)

Don't get my post wrong - I'm not saying it ain't all that cos it ain't a "real" RS (peeps who know me KNOW that ain't true as me being such an active member of the XROC and the fact I refuse point blank to join the RSOC cos I think most are an elitist bunch of snobbish tosspots that put too much emphasis on whats written on thier log book )

But what I was trying to convey was that no matter how good it is, how identicle it is to a S2 in parts, looks, etc, it "technically" isn't one, and as such I wouldn't badge it up as one.....

But I re-iterate that I think they look best anyway with no badges on at all anyway

I stripped the badges off my XR3i cos I prefer the look without em, but atually went to the trouble of having special XR plates made up cos it did my head in having people ask me if it was an RS all the time

Disagree with the elitism bit Thrush. Far too OTT mate IMO! People are RS enthusiast for that exact reason.....it being an RS! All boiling down to the fact that they are the cars used in Motorsport. Its not eliteism to then just consider(not dislike juts consider) that XR, GL,LX, etc etc are then all in the same catogory.
IMO thats the main reason for the enthusiasm...the motorsport history and ultimatly the power.

Take the engine out remove the bodykit and recaros etc.. fit some dog legs alloys and put a XR3i badge on the back.

Fook what any one thinks the car was built with everything new almost everything that was avab to buy.Far better than most rusty RS turbos that have been Trashed buy every owner that it`s had .
You have got a almost new RS turbo there
The Only thing that is not RS is a fooking piece of A4 paper

Keep the badge on mate or do what i said above IMO

Buy a rst shell for 600 quid. Restore it for 1500. Put all the bits on it. Get an old 3i for 200 quid, put all the bits off the 3i onto that shell and sell as a mint 3i to some bufty in the XROC for 1500 quid. Have a proper mint RST then with no quibbles

OR JUST LEAVE IT

The only reason was i could not find a clean RST at the time to fit all my bits to so up pop a mint xr3i with a broken cambelt 3 owners all genniue pannels etc.. no rust anywhere for Ł500 quid

Would of been mad not to buy it and could not wait any longer to find an RST shell

Never had any probs beening a xr3I went to all the shows even on the stand at nat day a few years back

Also have a few trophys winning best RS TURBO

So there no reason to tack the bagde off

At the end of the day it's an xr3i shell with RST running gear. If it bothers you why buy it? You can't change the log book (well you can, but not legally) so just enjoy it. Some people will never change there views while it has that log book but be happy in the fact it's 100% better than most RSTs out there.

Mines built from an XR3i and is the cleanest i've ever come accross, after a while people just forget its a XR3i and assume its an RS.

Well, I have come across a lot of "clicky" elitist attitudes - main reason I don't go on the RSOC BB anymore, so I stand by what I said...

And jsut for your info - after the S1 RST there hasn't been another RS derived from motorsport homologation (other than the Escort Cosworth)..... But on the other hand the Xr3 and the XR3i's both had their own race series

It's one of the best looking well sorted S2 around and if someone is being a cooont about the shells original status then they are jealous, fook em, you've got a motor the way they hope theirs will be one day.

If the badges bother you, take them off, then it makes no statement about what it is.

We all love it, you love it so fook the people who try to put it down.

Its not the badge that makes a car!!

If youre happy with the car, why let what other people think or say bother you!?

lol...................

What exactly is the difference between an RST shell, XR3i shell or 1.3 bonus shell for that matter?!?!?!

That car is an Escort RS Turbo no matter what is on the log book

In fact as Gra found out the lookbook can be changed

Anyone who slates the car because it didn't start life as an RST either doesn't know the car or is simply jealous.

Who cares what other think, just enjoy the car

Oh, and I would have it badged as an RST

Difference in the shell were very minor, things like holes for mounting ecu's etc, structurally they are identical throughout the range.

Cant you get it re registered as an rs turbo problem solved isnt that what people used 2 do it probaly means a car inspection at your nearest department of transport centre and loads of forms but its worth it at the end of the day then you can tell people 2 just fook off

It isnt its an Escort XR turbo. It simply cannot be an RS. And never will be. THIS IS NOT pulling the car down, as i was intrested myself, but its fact. I fully agree with that its the bollox and leave the badges on, but it isnt an RS!

If you grafted a Vectra gsi kit onto it, put in a vauxhall 2.5 vg lump in it, GSi recaros etc would it make it a Vauxhall escort 2.5 gsi? No and its the same thing!
