Default Need a little help!

Hi Guys.

I have an Escort Series 2.

The car starts fine but after a couple of minutes idling the exhaust smokes badly.
The car is chucking out loads white smoke (not blue).

Has the car been serviced with the incorrect oil ? is this causing the oil to be burned to quickly ?

What oil should the car be serviced with ?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks Guys
Pete

White smoke's usually a sign of head gasket failure.

Default 1.8

Hi Dave.

Its been converted to an 1800. I have nooo idea how I can prove this , but i have the receipts.

The turbo is also a turbo technics job.

The car pulls like a train and the sound from the turbo far louder than standard.

Fuck*** smoke tho is pissing me off. I have a feeling its a low grade oil in the engine , or am i talking bollox lol

Not doubting the conversion at all mate

how has it been built though, do you know ? have receipts for skimming the pistons or different pistons ?

is it a CVH or zetec bottom end ?

Default Zetec

Dave

Sorry mate, I meant prove it to myself !

How can I tell if the engine really has been bored ?
The car apparently has a Zetec bottom end.

I have a receipt from an engineering company (cant rem the name). That shows the rebuild is a 1.8 costing £1900

Also do you think I should go back to standard ? I think of swooping my car for a standard white RST same age.

My car has Tarox brakes, FSH, suspension , samcos, uprated turbo (4 k of recipts), respray

Would I be conned if I swoped it for a standard car in slightly better condition ?

I have been offerd 2300 for my car , this is also tempting!

Cant tell if its been bored without taking the head off mate.

If its a zetec bottom end then the dipstick should be situated at the front left hand corner of the engine. Ideally the pistons should have been replaced for proper ones or skimmed at least . you can run totally std 1.8 zetec bottom end but you are limited as to what they will do and how long it will last. I have one of these in my FWD car but i know what it is and if it goes then it goes and im only £50 out of pocket.

Wether you should go back to a std bottom end and how much your car is worth is bugger all to do with me mate. all I can reccomend is to get your car along to the nearest reputable company and have it properly checked over.

tell us where your from and im sure someone will know a good place near you

if teh smoke was oil the it would be blue

if black its fuel

if its white its water

as its coming out of the exhaust then its either turbo failure or head gasket

does it get hot, lose water, miss fire anytime?

if the turbo is watercooled block the water pipes both ends of the turbo, if its stops then the turbo is knackered, if it doesnt then head gasket

only tests you can do i think, bar a compression test aswell
