I'd be going for around 95C water and 260F oil.

260*F thats approx 125*C surely that cant be right

went out in the car last night and the oil temp was reading generally between 60*C and after a little thrash the highest it got to was between 75*C and 78*C

Mine sits at 210F with very easy driving, rises to 240F with hard driving and if driven on a hot day at prolonged high revs it will edge towards 250F.

What gauges are you using to monitor your temps? Do you have an aftermarket air-oil cooler? If so, is it thermostatically controlled?

not 100 % on this but ive just been told that motorway, pottering driving should see about 60/65*C and on a thrash rising till approx 80*C and on a track day etc should only rise to about 95*C so if your cars oil temp is showing 125*C+ this is way to high

Yeah I'm waiting to hear back from an informed source too...it's possible that although I'm using good quality gauges, their sensors may not be as good. I wouldn't expect false readings from Auto Meter equipment though

Word has come back - 120C max, specifically stated for the oil I use (Motual 8100 5W30), which equates to 248F Mine doesn't exceed 240F on a normal hard drive, and generally sits at 210-220F (99-104C).

the oil needs to get up to over 80 deg c when using the car, if it doesnt it will emulsify, the max should be up to 120deg c , also the water temps should also be at 90-95 deg on an escort, up to a max of 115ish tho i have seen 125 with no worries
