That's strange
I've been with them for years & they always sort me a good deal out every year.
This year i managed to get a free samsung D900 with 2,550 minutes any network anytime & unlimited text messages all for ......... £35 per month

Orange wouldnt give me a good deal either as I was a low user.
I moved to three because of the great deals. Was a bit worried about the signal but can honestly say it has been as good as Orange
Oh yes, and see me TV is cool to

I had a similar problem when trying to upgrade my phone. Now I used to work for Orange so know the system and even after going through the motions they would not budge.
Im seriously thinking about leaving them which is a pain as I do enjoy using them and have done for 6 years now. But I need a new phone and I dont see why I should pay £100 for a phone I can get for free from the high street as a new customer.

been with orange for 5 years, started with the 50 quid plan 400 mins and 400 texts, and then i upgraded 4 free then it droped down to 45 quid and upgraded agen for free and went down to 40 and now been on the same plan for the last 2 years, 500 mins and 500 texts with the new samsung slide phone
good service
good service
go vodi.
saying that, i wouldnt be suprised if orange call you back nearer the contract end time to try and change your mind.
they like to hold out incase you give in, but if you dont then its highly likely on the last day they will call and suddenly be very generous!!

I had the same with orange. I've switched to T mobile on their flex T service. It was the best at the time but orange have come back with these dolphin services which are bloody good.
There is one way to come back to orange as a new customer and therefore get the better treatment you do as a new customer:
End your contract and ask to have your number switched over to a pay as you go service. Keep the PAYG for a month or so, then sign up a new deal on the contract service you wanted. Then ring up and get the PAC code to transfer your PAYG number (which was your original contract number) to your new contract
