New 3.14:1 4x4 front diffs
Me & a few others are getting a group buy sorted for the ultra rare 3.14:1 front diff crown & pinions.
They where made 16 years ago by a firm for turbo technics.
2nd hand they are worth about £1000 for the pair but you try & find them
I have found the orginal blue prints & the factory that made them who will make some more but one will cost £1050, so to get the price down we need to club together.
10 x C & P's work out too £550 each
These are new front C & P not recut or bodged old ones.
There is 5 of us so far.
These diffs will:
1. Change the gearing of the car.
2. Will reduce your fuel consumption.
3. Reduces revs at 70mph by 250rpm so it's not as loud or stressful.
4. Increase your top speed if you have the power making your cossie 200mph capable.
These diffs are a amazing upgrade for a TT 2.9 car but will benifit other cars that use the xr4x4 transmission set-up too.
Please note you will have to find your own 3.14:1 rear diff to match that Ford fitted to Sierra's & granada's.
There is thousands of them but less than 50 of the fronts
Here is a picture of a 3.14:1 front C & P.

It has done 80,000miles attached to a engine making 350lbs so you can see the quality is fantastic. Hardly any wear.

with ref to your other post pal, there is a transfer step off ratio that can me made to suit your car, and your ratios,
i.e if you have a 3.14:1 in the rear and you fitted a 3.62 in the front you can have a pair of step offs to make the ratio up, using a 30 driver and a 26 driven will match the differant ratios. i have a spare 26 gear from a set of 3.9's i used the 24 tooth from, all you would need to have made is one 30 tooth gear, ive just had one made by dennis osbourne, then the chain altered to suit.
just a thought to save you £5000

Hi
Yeah I know all about that mod.
1. It causes increased wear in the transfer part of the box.
2. I am using a Skyline gearbox so can not use it anyway.
3. I was quoted more dosh for that method than getting one of these diffs made.
I already have one set fitted but I want another one made for my next car. Hence getting some buddies for a group buy

O.K mate but I was told that it does increase the load as it's not 1 to 1 any more so I should expect increased wear rates.
I was quoted £700 for the transfer mod, who did yours?
But as I say I am using a Skyline box so the diffs is my only option.
Cheers

as the transfer is chain driven why would there be any load changes really ?
i modded the transfer myself, very easy.
thinking about why wouldnt it work on the skyline box ? its still chains and step off, just with a hydraulic centre diff.

Well when I was researching all the transmission firms I asked where warning me I might have problems so that was as far as I took it oh & they wanted silly money to do it.
I do build my own boxes so I could probably do the same as you.
But after researching these front diffs, they seem perfect.
I have stripped & rebuilt one, it's really good quality, just seems the right thing to do.
They have been run on a car for almost 10 years at up to just over 600bhp/550lbs with no problems & appear to have no issues.
So I know the reliability is there.
They are cheap for what they are & I have the matching rear diffs.
Everything is in place I just have to tell the company to make them.
It would be silly of me to back track now but to be honest you are probably right about the Skyline box, I have one here but I have never rebuilt one

Yeah the only parts different is the crown & pinion.
Other than them two parts it's STD so you can use a thick wall case & ATB if you want.
I rebuilt a STD diff just using the C & P from the old 3.14:1 diff to be sure
