Bastards, see its even MY money, every penny of it.

What happened was i opened a new account with Barclay's and closed my account with Coventry building society for various reasons, anyway upon closing the account they said they would write me out a cheque of my balance, but i totally forgot it would need to clear, so now i havent got access to my money until about wednesday, bloody stupid and i aint paying extra to have it clear sooner

Normally 3-4 working days but when you pay it in they should be able to give you a date for when it will clear

It can take 7 days depends if the cheque was from a UK bank. Cheques can still get returned unpaid over a week later. If its a lot of money i.e car sale I would do a special presentation on the cheque it costs about £6.00 it also tells you if the cheque is genuine or not. Good luck.

Excellent

While were on the subject and to save me making a new thread, what exactly is cashback from shops? i got a debit card sorted out lastweek and it mentioned it in the leaflet that came with it.

Can someone explain (sorry for sounding thick, all this banking is new to me what with coming from a shitty little building society that couldnt even offer me a debit card )

It means you can get cash out of your bank without going to the cash machine. They will give it you at the till when you're buying your shoping. Max cashback is about £50.00 at anyone time. hope this is of help.

I may be wrong, but you mentioned you have paid the cheque into a Barclays account and I *think* that that bank lets you draw on the money straight away even if it hasn't cleared yet. I'm sure I remember that this is one of their perks/selling points??

Don't take my word for it though!

Cheers,

Natalie

Just using the online banking service now and it says my balance is zero but if i look at transactions/statements its got an entry for the 28th saying i put the cheque in and the amount which was correct.

Anyway i went to a cash machine the following day(friday) and it said balancemy balance here) and then amount available today: £0.00. so doesnt look like i can draw some out unless you mean actually going into barclays and getting it from the counter?
