Auto boxes tend to suffer from problems about 60-80k by all acounts people say. Some have lots of probs and of course other done 200k with no probs lol. One of reasons why i stayed away as i quite fanncied auto. And you get around 10mpg less Nail in coffin for me

The auto boxes are generally VERY VERY good!

As for mpg... they only kill it by 1 or 2 generally and most of the time they are actually getting BETTER figures as they change gear when you Cant Be Arsed! lol

agree about 10mph being BS.

my 24v senator does 30-35mpg on motorway at well illegal speeds, and thats an auto, and i doubt the manual version does 40-45mpg

...LOL...the older generation autos where a good 5 mpg worse...tiptronic is very different and there aint alot in it in the MPG stakes.

...my M3 SMG cab wasnt noticably worse on fuel than my manual M3

Just saying what it said on computer, where as i got 38ish around town they was getting high 20's On the computer as said.

Stavros on M'way obviously aint going to make massive diff as it isnt using the torque converter going through the gears etc. Its around town which is more.

Hell i dont care anyway. I want auto... But was put of by people having probs and mpg. As im prob one of the lasiest drivers on here a auto would suit me down to the ground

never seen a bmw tiptronic but the VAG & Merc ones are very good, you can be lazy and just bury your foot in the carpet and it'll just accelerate with quick ultra smooth gearchanges, or if you wanna drive like a cunt you can flick it accross into tiptronic mode. Personally on a big diesel i'd rather the tiptronic automatic.
